This topic will cover all the various SF based faction mods I'm making, from different Special Forces or Commando/ Elite regiments across the globe. They will all have similar core dependencies so it's easier to have multiple factions at the same time, and will all work together with full Editor, Zeus, ACE3, TFAR and ALiVE support.

20161219094559_1.jpg

US Navy S.E.A.L faction mod, which contains a range of SEAL units, including supporting elements of the SEALs like UDT (Underwater Demolition Teams) and VBSS (Visit, Board, Search, Seizure) ship boarding teams.

Historical Info-
The U.S. Navy SEALs were established by President John F. Kennedy in 1962 as a small, elite maritime military force to conduct Unconventional Warfare. They carry out the types of clandestine, small-unit, high-impact missions that large forces with high-profile platforms (such as ships, tanks, jets and submarines) cannot. They form the US Navy's premier Special Operations Force (SOF) and are a component in NAVSPECWAR.

Motto- "The only easy day was yesterday."

The Faction-

The SEALS in this mod are accurate to a 2009-2012 time period, based on photographs, helmet camera footage or my unnamed consultant, with weapons and equipment based on the gear they used at that time. M4A1's, HK416 and HK416 CQB form the bulk of the infantry rifles, with the Mk43 Mod 0 (SEAL designation for the M60E4) and M14 EBR in supporting roles. They wear AOR-1 Camo and LBV-6094 vests, as similar as possible as I could get to real life.

Specialist Elements-

The VBSS ship boarding teams are based on a 2009-2010 Persian Gulf deployment, and have the HK416 cut down as a CQC carbine and OD spray camoed, with a few M249 SAWS and MP5K-PDW's- they also wear flat OD gear and carry close range dot optics for on-ship fighting.

Supports-

It wouldn't be SEALS without naval assets, so in addition to the VBSS there is also Frogmen Combat Divers, Underwater Demolition teams and Seal Delivery Vehicles, as well as a range of water-bourne assets crewed by SWCC's, Special Warfare Combatant-Craft Crewmen, aka 'Swicks', who man the weapon systems and drive the various boats in the faction, and wear M81 woodland camo, instead of the SEAL standard AOR-1.

Because of the quick, rapid water or airbourne raids of the SEALs they lack in Anti-tank assets, only have AT4's at the Squad level- as a result they have a MX-9 UAV available that can provide recon and anti-tank fire support if needed on ground targets. They also have a rangle of air supports from the UH-60 SF (Ghosthawk) to the MH-6 and RAH-66 Commanche, all with custom pilots/ crew and real life names for all vehicles.

Faction has full Editor, Zeus, Task Force Radio, ACE3 and ALiVE support (faction name BLU_SL )

So, a bit of a hint as to the next faction- They are European, and were deployed in Afghanistan between at least Mid-2007 and October 2012. My source says they have a bit of a reputation for being hardcore, even among other SF groups.

Some WIP photos of the Polish "Grupa Reagowania Operacyjno-Manewrowego" - GROM.

GROM was established in 1990 and has fought alongside other SF units such as US Navy SEALS and British SAS/ SBS.

I was able to some fantastic sources for these guys from as far back as Kandahar Province, Afghanistan, 2007 (When they carried M4A1's and F2000's) to more modern equipment such as the now-standard Hk416 and Multicam camo starting around late 2011/early 2012 -My first image of them in more modern kit was from December 2011/January 2012 and similar kit along those lines has continued to the present day.

Some Work-In-Progress photos of them ingame-

GROM Units.

20161221132335_1.jpg

Carl-Gustav, which they have in an anti-structure and anti-tank role.

20161221125537_1.jpg

And a Sniper/ Spotter team- The spotter carries a M14 DMR with a TWS thermal optic, and I chose the Marksman Ghille Suits because the underclothes resemble ATACS-AU camo, which the GROM use on occasion.

Ha, yep- I wanted to try and get more international units some coverage in A3- We've seen a few on the more common groups, and plenty of US Army and Russian Army stuff, but nothing from places like the Middle East, Africa, South America or even the majority of Europe. I want to get more unit packs out, as there's plenty of fantastic kit lying around without AI compatible units wearing it.

My goal is to make units based on as wide a range of forces as possible, everyone from CIA Special Activities Division, Israeli Sayetet 13 to Pakistani SSG- guys you've probably never heard of. I want to get as close to their actual equipment and weapons as possible using sources that are as recent and accurate as possible, but also keep the same core mod requirements, so someone can just grab those and run whatever SF units they want.

GROM Released a bit early.

20161224082740_1.jpg

SEALS, GROM and an ANA Commando join in celebration of the Christmas Eve release.

Historical Info-

The Polish GW GROM ( Grupa Reagowania Operacyjno-Manewrowego) are Poland's most elite Special Forces unit, and were founded in 1990, and trained by US Delta Force, US Navy SEAL Teams, and the British Special Air Service. Named after Poland's WW2 special forces unit, the 'Silent Unseen' and have since garnered a reputation, even among other international Special Forces Units as being one of the best units in the world.

Motto- "Siła i Honor Tobie Ojczyzno! (Strength and Honor For you, Fatherland!) "

The Faction-

The Polish GROM in this mod are accurate to a 2011-2016 timeframe, based on photgraphs and sources, with weapons and equipment they used at that time. The Heckler & Koch HK416 forms their primary rifle, in both CQB 10 Inch versions and the standard 14.5 version. The M14 EBR serves as their DMR due to being in their inventory at the current time (2016) with the M249 SAW being their autorifleman weapon. They have heavier firepower on a squad level compared to other SF units as they carry a Carl-Gustav M3 lauchers, which can be used in both anti-infantry and anti-armor roles. They wear Multicam uniforms and OD/ Tan equipment, and a cosiderable number of their weapons have been spray-camo'ed in the field, which I have seen in photographs of GROM in Afghanistan.

Specialist Elements-

The GROM have a dedicated Sniper-Spotter team, wearing a ghille suit with ATACS-AU underclothes, giving them precision supporting fire, recon or for HVT assassination.

Supports-

The GW GROM lack the heavier air assets of other SF units, instead having a light Mh-6 Littlebird for transport or insertions, and having the Oshkosh M-ATV for vehicle support, with a mounted M2 50. Cal. They have a light Zodiac craft for water-bourne operations. All vehicles have real life names and designations.

Faction has full Editor, Zeus, Task Force Radio and ALiVE support (faction name GM ) Also supports ACE3 Medical system.

I go to all the effort to get them close to real life as I can, I figure a general overview of the unit is well worth doing alongside the release.

Hi jarrad, merry christmas mate!

I like what you're doing here, there's a lot of potential in making a very unique and varied selection of SF units with the amount of awesome gear and weapon mods out there!

Im liking your plan of attack in doing this - using already existing high quality addons instead of making your own which means you get to devote more time on creating the actual configs for the troops.

Whats your end goal for this mod? How many factions/units/groups/branches would you like to portray?

Happy festive season and hope you have a great chrissy!

My final end goal?

Beating Massi's units in quality and options for any Special Forces in the world.

This is is no way a complete list, there may be more factions than this, or I may be unable to find reliable sources, in which case I will not work on something I cannot actually confirm is (X unit) and that they use (Y Equipment)

I want them to be as authentic as possible, which is something I consider very important to all the factions I plan to make- Mod limitations do come into play, so some weapons or equipment models that do not exist in Arma will be replaced by a similar or role-fulfilling weapon/ gear item.

Source wise, I have some contacts within SF groups, so if they are unable to get me info I go online to a small selection of websites that are run by known military or SF members- if that also fails I'll trawl through anything I can find, but haven't needed to do that yet, and I've been making/ planning some of these units since, what, March? A pretty long time.

Oh, and right now it looks like MARSOC Marine Raiders are winning the poll for the next faction, followed by the Israelis and then the ANA Commandos. MARSOC forces will be using Magpul P-MAG Gen3 Windowed where possible, as since December 20th 2016 they have become a Marine issued item for combat deployments.

Issue NSN codes-

NSN 1005-01-615-5169 (BLACK)

NSN 1005-01-659-7086 (COYOTE TAN)

MarineRaidersLogo.png

If anyone is interested, here's some NSN codes for some of the upcoming Raider kit.

NSN 1005-13-119-7704

NSN 1005-13-119-7703

NSN 1010-13-119-8614

NSN 1005-01-370-7353

Among others.

Russian 'V' Vympel Unit (2014-2017) - Waiting for VSM SURPAT camo.

These are the 'secondary' special forces of Russia, behind the 'Alfa' FSB unit, and were chosen instead of the FSB due to being in less international attention.

I'm not sure if my remark is needed, but "Vympel" belongs to the FSB as well.

Yeah, Vympel are in the same organisation and such, but they seem to get slightly different equipment- I want each of the factions I made to have some sort of distictive role, look, equipment or support, rather than just being so similar to each other- That's why I chose Vympel instead of Alfa, as V seems to wear SURPAT more often, compared to the Alfa's Multicam- I already have about 2-3 factions wearing some form of Multicam right now, so want a different look to my other factions.
