BI unannounced game (VR)

Recommended Posts

I hope it's fine to post this here because I wasn't sure in which section I should post it but today I did noticed the following on BI careers page:

We are looking for a <ROLE> to join our development team in the studio's Prague office on an unannounced, original IP, Virtual Reality (VR) title.

<ROLE> = Gameplay programmer, 3D artist, sound artist, environment artist and lead artist.

Link for one of the positions.

There are 5 open positions for this new game and, at least for me, it's the first time I read about it. More interesting is that it's a VR game, something I didn't expect BI to explore right now but I am excited because I think that VR is awesome (I had a DK2 and I will get a Vive or Rift a couple of months after both are released). Also, it isn't clear if it's a new IP or not right, only that it's one of their IPs? I ask because English isn't my main language and maybe I am not reading right.

So, what do you guys think about it?

I posted this also on Reddit and an user did point out that on the positions is also says:

A passion for space and exploration

So, it might be a Take On Mars 2/VR?

And sorry for the double post but now I can't find a way to delete this post I'll just use it instead of editing the first post.

wow thats pretty cool, i love the hardcore sim elements of most BI games so an upcoming space title could be freaking awesome, one of my favourite things about TOM is that, like other BI titles, it doesn't slavishly pander to quick gameplay at the expense of realism. i like my games boringly realistic!

so let the wild and unfounded speculation commence!

as its 'original IP' its maybe not going to be 'take on mars 2' but i'd love to see them take what they've built in TOM and make a larger more immersive space exploration game. i think there is also a gap in the market here, hard science fiction is enjoying a bit of a resurgence in the media (see gravity, europa report, the martian etc) but there hasn't quite been a matching title in games, although the likes of space engineers, KSP and take on mars come close. i'd love to see BI fill this void: in an ideal world i'd hope for the bastard lovechild of KSP, space engineers and arma 3! that said i'd play pretty much anything if its subject to the same standards as most BI titles, don't mean to sound like a shameless fanboy but BI love a good simulator. so even if its not the vast freeform sandbox solar system i'm already kinda hoping it will be, any kind of well made VR space simulator is gonna be amazing.

Oh well, even though we don't know anything about the game we at least know there could be another good reason to start saving for a VR headset, and the rig to go with it!

It can't be TKOM 2 since TKOM hasn't left Early Access yet :p

You guys know that there is a DLC in ArmA 3 called "Virtual Reality"? Maybe they're making another VR DLC. :P

Obviously not. A dlc isn't an original title.

It would be interesting to see an ARMA title in VR.

I've seen it work with games like War thunder and such but not on a mil sim type game like ARMA.

While it would be fantastic to experience Arma in VR, the main issue I see is still performance. While the Arma series as a whole has improved dramatically, many people still cannot retain a high framerate in game. I believe the Oculus requires a constant 90 fps to function correctly? I dont see that being possible with a game on Arma's scale any time soon.

Not just. Infantry gameplay is difficult if you want to prevent people from getting motionsick. Planes and vehicles are better in that regard (e.g. warthunder)

Unannounced can mean that this game will come out in 3 years. Therefore i think speculating now is a waste of time.

It doesn't have to be infantry. I was thinking the obvious choice is Zeus VR.
