Hello ArmA 3 Community.

For the last 4 months i've been working on a terrain called "Finland". It's a fictional terrain based off Finland, the country with the 1000 lakes (and a few more).

This is not a release but an inside look at what it will turn into when it's finished.

Finland is a winter terrain at the size of 10 x 10 km, all of which is playable.

Features: (so far)

Custom Trees (A2)

1 Big city

2 Airfields, 1 military and 1 civillian

Few military outposts and bases scattered across the map.

Couple of small and medium sized villages all across the map.

Lots of lakes (It's finland after all)

Lots of mountains.

A big easter egg (physicly big)

That sunken gas station looks kinda weird. Have you planned to add some rubble and dusty land texture to make it look more like a collapsed building?

If I remember correctly, some Arma II maps ie. Schwemlitz had some buildings that looked quite similar to Finnish ones. Maybe you could ask for a permission to use some of them, since in the current state the island doesn't look like Finland at all. Other than that the island looks quite nice, so keep up the good work. :)

Thanks for the feedback and yea i have been thinking about adding some rubble and possibly some broken down cars near it. About it not looking like finland i agree, i have been thinking about what i can replace it with and this could really help. Thanks a ton! :)

Didn't the Swedish mod donate their buildings to the community mapmakers? Talk to them and see if you can use their buildings.

Lots of mountains and Finland hmmm. Generally the landscape in Finland is nothing like in Altis, Stratis or Chernarus if you mean that by mountains. But Lapland has maybe more of the kind of elevation changes though not much really. Norway and maybe Northern Sweden are more mountain type places.

Btw if you're interested you can get pretty accurate height data if you want at some point do some specific area:

Very accurate heightdata and ortographic photographs

Thanks and yea i know, to be honest this whole time i've been trying to learn how the tools work and how to fix every possible error. The height data will definetly help me, i appriciate it! All the work will remain tho, the buildings will have the same coordinates just on a different Z axis :).

Thanks! I'm glad they are since they were quite a hassle to make :)

After a lot of great feedback i'm now changing the terrain to make it look more "Finland style". Will show screenshots when i'm done! (This will also speed up the work with roads since some of them were, well, tilting 90 degrees due to mountains) ;)

In case you would like to see something to aim for, the Thirsk terrain is generally acknowledged to be of very high quality and convey the Finnish countryside

Darn.. I'm really looking for a summer Finland map besides VT5. Well.. I guess winter has to do.

As stated earlier here, Finland is a bit more flat than what is seen in the pictures.

Keep at it and it will payoff all the hard work in the end! Looking forward for this.  :)

Maybe if i have time, something like a summer version of this might be done as well, we'll see :)

Also, i have flattened the terrain down a bit and changed out most of the buildings to make it feel and look more like finland. I will put up some screenshots here today if arma 3 approves and doesn't crash like it does at times :)

Due to a bug i lost a lot of work. I'm not thinking about not completing the map because of all the errors i have had with it.... Ever since i began working on it i have always encounter bugs. About 70% of my time that i have worked on this map has been solving bugs and glitches.

that airport is in the worse location I've ever seen, a steep slope right infront of the runway....

I'm sorry but i'm not working on the map anymore.

Maybe a Mod can close this thread then..

@Cookies: Terrain making is just another word for bugfixing ;)
