Skylake vs Zen for A3 Thread

Recommended Posts

Based on the information leaked and released about the Zen Architecture, AMD is returning to the Bread and Butter SMT process. This means that the IPC will skyrocket. AMD bet on CMT over the traditional SMT and lost at everything except heavy computational code that ran in parallel. Hence one reason that AMD CPUs are so good at cryptography.

I expect that Zen will be another jump in the market for AMD. Like how AMD was the first to break the 1GHz barrier, the dual core, triple core, quad core, hexa core, octo core barriers. I believe that AMD has been playing the long game. It may be that Zen will incorporate much of the tech they created while on the CMT process into the SMT process on Zen. It will (assuming the rumors are true) be the first to break the 12 core desktop chip market. Let us not forget that AMD has had 8 core/12 core/16 core Server chips for a while with the Opteron. And they had the designs and prototype of a 24-core opteron that was never released.

Pair that with the Vulkan API that will be used in more platforms than Microsoft's DirectX 12 will and we should see AMD's gambling might just pay off. Especially with AMD's move to HBM, DDR4, and HSA.

Lets say there are 20,000 members here to the forum/board (possibly, was much smaller years ago but what with dayz etc)

The member list is almost 20,000 *pages* long. at 20 members per page, that is over 376k members, here.
