maybe it's just the short barrel thorwing you.

Though I'm going to have to critique the texture's on the MSR, it just doesn't seem to interact with the environment, lighting wise nor does it have much detail texture wise in wear, markings or such.

Also, to be atleast, the scope rings look a little high compared to all the other photos of the MSR with various mounts on it.

The size on the website is with a 22" barrel, might be that the picture I used as reference has a 20". I'll check that.

As I said before, I am not good at texturing. Black as a base color also tends to make a lot of details mostly invisible. I don't really know what to do with the textures, I really can't draw for shit.

Yeah, that's intentional. The clip-on night sight requires the higher scope rings, and I used that version of the Leupold on the MSR.

Should be able to get some idea's to start the textures etc. from this example, of course remembering that is also someone else's interpretation so, it may not be absolutely correct either. He has just begun it and is also saying he is looking for ideas/help on the texture side of things, maybe you can help each other.

They seem overly shiny or something at the moment aswell, like a shiny plastic, not the 'duller' (for lack of a better word I can't find at the moment) finished plastic/metal used on the rifle. Dust etc. is going to dull the shine like in the above pic aswell if your wanting to eventually go for the 'in use' look, instead of a brand new look.

Would be nice to see a paint job like the eventually :D

It seems i was wrong

Interesting that XM2010 is smaller than MSR , i thought they were same size just different bolt/caliber

According to this pic , the MSR is quite big compared to the xm2010

Only partially wrong :) Since I wasn't sure about the size of the barrel, I looked up the chassis system they use (Incidentally called RACS :D) and that's 36.4", so I could verify that the gun was indeed too large (about two inch). I shrunk it down, and modeled a .338 cartridge and verified that it fits snugly into the magazine, which it does now... so it was too large after all :)

Thanks for the heads-up. I tried to get a new paint job done on it, and this is what I came up with:

OApSMs.jpg hmjvGs.jpg (click for larger)

I don't think I can do much better than this, but I suppose the look has improved. I also took back the shininess.

Thank you all for your honest criticism. Please let me know what you think of this.

I like the reduced spec/shine, looks much better IMO.

Agreed, the tan really brings out the edges on the handguards and such compared to the black, might want to consider adding the stamping on the Remington logo on the left side (Maybe do this in the bump map, idk how.)

Referance for the Stamping

Its the little things :)

Hi Alwarren, long time no rent. Therefor i remembered corretly that the Bolt of the XM2012 has a cut texture to it, since it is operated in harsh enviorements. The Bolt has several cut out parts to accept sand and debris while still functioning properly.

I will probably be able to release the first version somewhere next week, which will include the RSASS, MSR and XM2010 sniper rifles for now.

Well that was a long week :D

Still chipping away at it?

Yeah, you know how that works... you think you'll get some time to work on it, and then all of a sudden the zombie apocalypse starts... okay I might remember that part wrong... I'll see that I get to work on the pack over the weekend, I have all the parts completed, I just need to assemble them and do the config work.
