Hi all

In Mafia style hit, a clearly desperate and panicked, News Corporation managent has thrown, the UK's biggest selling paper, the News of the World "newspaper" under a bus. The paper is to close with its last issue being this weekend.

It is obvious that the board are hoping this will halt the investigations.

http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-14070733

Investigations are getting closer and closer to the senior management of News International with the discovery that senior managers at News International which is owned by Murdoch's News Corporation had been involved in trying to remove records subpoenaed by the court.

Calls for suspension of James Murdoch and criminal investigations are increasing.

The spillover is affecting News International's other papers, advertising and the TV company Sky, with numbers of subscribers plummeting.
http://www.channel4....pposition-grows

It has also begun to affect the News Corporation's international share price with some saying it has become a short selling target.
http://www.thejourna...172173-Jul2011/
And increasing signs that the shareholders are now out for the whole Murdoch families blood.

Good thing this didn’t happen to Metro, what would I read on the tube every morning

I don't read News of the World but I saw it has a 160 year history, shame it had to close this way.

Hi all

It is getting bigger!

Senior managment at News Corp are now under criminal investigation for giving false testimony.

http://uk.reuters.co...E76626Y20110707

A basic rule it is always the cover up that gets you caught.

There are hints that the hacking issue has reached the US and calls for investigations there.
http://www.adweek.co...reads-us-133208

There are also signs that one or more Journalists have turned Queens Evidense and are spilling the beans on the managment.

News Of The World is a despicable, hateful rag. Good riddance, now to rid the world of the rest of them.

One less of these trash magazines. I honestly don't care about it going under.

Now, if only a similar case could be brought up with Fox News and yield the same result...

Hi all

At least five News of the World reporters have been already been brought in for questioning and police sources are saying more arrests will follow.

The Murdoch's have become political pariahs
http://www.google.co...O7nVBJ7_hSic-fA

News Corp has also become an economic Pariah with Ford and GM and several other multinational companies considering pulling all News Corp advertising.

Seems I am not the only one to think this is all about trying to protect the News Corp management:

Has Rebekah Brooks told the Murdochs, if she goes they go too?

If I were Rebekah Brooks I would not accept any invitations to fly in any private planes

Good for Murdoch.

I find the News of The World to be a hard bunch of people to feel a lot of sympathy towards.

Hi Baff1

...Good for Murdoch...

You do know Murdoch is also under investigation don't you? And that members of Parliament from all parties are calling for his removal from the board?
http://www.parliamen...?meetingId=8700

As I pointed out at the start of this thread and as have many others in the media and business it is obvious that Murdoch's action is clearly about protecting the managment, as many of the senior people involved in the News of the World at the time of the hacking now run News Corp. Those that ran News of the World during the hacking are not being sacked.

Good to see one down, but only problem is there's a good chance he'll just make the sun a 7 day a week newspaper.

As my Dad always said, the purpose of news is to sell news papers.

It not freedom or knowledge, it's for commercial profit, nothing more. If there is no news they make it up, how else to you explain the phenomena of the "Celebrity"?

Marx often miss quoted "Die Religion ... ist das Opium des Volkes" Religion is the opiate of the people. Well the people these days aren't big on religion but News now servers the same purpose. "Mint source for the masses"

Not unless he can buy BSkyB in under 3 months he won't.

If Vince Cable/some other numpty blocks that sale, all those people are going on the dole.
Also someone might yet buy The News Of the World off him. Although again, I think he'll leave that hanging until BSkyB is finalised.

The day I start siding with politiicans is the day I give up Walker.
They are out to get Murdoch. They are quite happy to destroy the lives of anyone that gets between him and them.

I like to see people stand up to them.
I wish him all the best.

Who cares if some pretentious lefty twat wants him off the board of his own company. All the more reason to want him to stay. Give the man a medal for having all the right enemies any decent person should have.

Not only that, I think he has a pretty good chance of outmanouvering them. It is after all only the very dumbest and weakest of all our politicians trying to destroy him. I think there is more chance that things will go the other way.

I don't think destroying the News of the World was their goal. But they are idiots. What do you expect from them?

It's about the time the Murdoch empire went down. In my opinion, the press should be obliged to moral standards and present only a neutral point of view. If it doesn't, then it's not news, its propaganda, and doesn't present useful, reliable information which to me, is the only decent source.

Yes indeed.

If they just renamed it a realistic title from News Of The Word to "Shit for the narrow mind" ... they might have gone sooner.

I saw a Sky interview (I know, sky ....) .. there were some street interviews and one chap pretty much said very politely word to the effect of "Why target just one for the rest to hind behind" ... couldn't have put it better really.

They all peddle crap for the masses, no real need for any of them. Well, the ones disputing becuase they are loosing jobs shouldn't be part of it. If any of them really told the "news of the world" they would be classed as a domestic terrorist news rag.

Strange that I have to remind you that Murdoch and his ilk are the only leeches more hated by people than Politicians.

Also strange you call conservative backbenchers who also want him removed from his job "pretentious lefty twat " you did note that the motion had cross bench support did you not?

Also strange that you are supporting the man who ran the paper that hacked in to murdered Children's phones, the phones of fallen British heroes and their families and ditto victims of 7/7 and their families but glad you made that clear.

We..ll

Strange that he thinks News Paper people are more respected than politicians, bit like a toilet bowl full to the brim of s**t calling a kettle black.

Also odd that he was not aware that even the conservative party is calling for Murdoch to be kicked out.

The problem for News Corp is because they have not removed the real culprits now everyone is saying the next stage is that they will go after the Sun.

And as the Police are also looking into the actions of people who are now at the Sun, all Murdoch has done is take the rotten apples, give them a pay rise, and put them in another barrel where it too is rotting.
http://www.commonwea...g/blog/?p=14325

By the way documents that Murdoch himself is being investigated with regard to were subpoenaed from News Corp and so far show at least 4,000 people were being hacked, this includes some documents that News Corp were caught trying to destroy. It was the reason the Cross bench politicians were calling for Murdoch to be removed.

[

I don't care which politicians are calling for him to be kicked out. Who cares what they want?
And i don't really care if some pretentious lefty twats have some cross bench support. I don't care that there are pretentious lefty twats on both sides of the benches these days and I don't like conservatives all that much either.

The problem for News Corp, is that they have removed the real culprits, many years ago. The problem for News Corp is the woman that they are trying to destroy, is the woman who kicked them all out, not the woman who hired them. Where did you think the police got all their evidence from?

And if they throw her to the wolves, it won't stop there, any more than it stopped when they threw Coulson to the wolves. Twice. They will go on to Murdochs son and Murdoch himself.
And Murdoch, his son and his editor, didn't do it. in fact we aren't even sure if anything at all has been done yet. We are just at the accusation stage.

But shit sticks. And when it comes to Murdoch there are a whole load of people who spend considerable hours per day attempting to stick shit to him.

Because ultimately as you can see by many of the responses in this thread, that's what a load of people want to see.
No one here has waxed lyrical about the victims of phone hacking, no one gives much of a monkies about that. That is not what this is all about.

They just want to see Murdoch get strung up and this looks like the vehicle so many people have been waiting for to this end.

And me, I see no justice in this. I wish him all the best. I hope he gets to buy BSkyB. I hope his accusers slip on a banana peel and reap the just rewards of their machiavellian schemes.
I don't care if he goes too, but I do want to see them get it, and I reckon he is just the kind of he man to be able to stand up to them.

That all the lefties hate this guy is pure bonus comedy.

Perhaps you're unaware of the bile and hate that these rags perpetuate? If you fling shit, you got to expect splashback.

I seem to detect that you're willing to lay all critisism to "lefty twats". How it's "lefty twats" who have cross bench support. Maybe the issue itself has cross bench appeal?

Hi all

In reply to Baff1: You do know this is about the most repugnant of crimes dont you? Your Moral compass seems somewhat awry:

...And if they throw her to the wolves, it won't stop there, any more than it stopped when they threw Coulson to the wolves. Twice. They will go on to Murdochs son and Murdoch himself.
And Murdoch, his son and his editor, didn't do it. in fact we aren't even sure if anything at all has been done yet. We are just at the accusation stage...

You do also know that Coulson has been arrested dont you, it has been trailed in the media for the last few days?
http://www.telegraph...ce-station.html

And that it is not just politicians but also business that are calling for the Murdoch managment to be broken up:
http://www.bloomberg...meron-says.html

And that the Managment of News Corp are being investigated with regard to corrupting the police and bribery?
http://www.cjr.org/t...tes_uk_notw.php

And when you say:

...No one here has waxed lyrical about the victims of phone hacking, no one gives much of a monkies about that...

You do realise that for the majority of people in the world and in this forum, Baff1, that: that subject is something of a given, in this thread. We all know what the anyone who supports the Murdoch press on this matter is morally questionable hence why I posted:

...Also strange that you are supporting the man who ran the paper that hacked in to murdered Children's phones, the phones of fallen British heroes and their families and ditto victims of 7/7 and their families but glad you made that clear...

Also in the other thread

Hi all

The case that the Mirror does not check its facts is somewhat small beer; when compared to the Attitude of the Murdoch owned media in this country, particularly with regard to the Milly Dowler murder hacking case and now with the Police also investigating them with regard to the Soham Murders.

Walker

and

...The phone hacking appears to involve familiy of victims of 9/11, the Soham Murders, the McCann family. It also includes accusations of interfering with justice and attempts by the staff of News International to destroy evidense...

before we came here in order not to drag that thread too far offtopic and where we were specifically talking about

Murdoch throws News of the World under a bus to protect the mangement.

which is clearly the topic title and as OP the subject I raised in the first post.

If you cannot understand me saying the Murdoch press is objectionable how about the The Royal British Legion?

If you are going to stand shoulder to shoulder with the Murdochs' you can only expect to get covered in the crap overflowing the toilet rim that is their business, hence why any one with an ounce of morality and sense is acquiring a ten foot barge pole to fend them off.
