  1. hi all. now that ARMACHINIMA has ended, i wish to point your attention on a very funny (or very sad) thing: some videos (like mine, to be clear) got 72 visualization (not votes, i mean ==>> visualization! ) while others in the magnitude of 7000 to 9000 and more. considering i know that me and my friends visualized it for more or less 30 to 40 times, and excluding them, it means only 30 or less people loaded the video !! now, lets say the cover picture was ugly, or the title was boring or god knows what else....but seems way too far from realistic numbers! beware: i dont want absolutely contest the content of videos, surely the 10 finalist are better made than mine, for example, nothing to say about it. the problem in my opinion is that people doesnt even know whats inside the most of the 128 videos of the contest! despite putting a lot of efforts in the video, not even being considered at all.... is a bit sad, hoped that people at least give it a look, consider it garbage and move on, thats fine for me. anyway ...i wish to suggest another system for the future contests, because honestly i think everyone in this situation will simply stop to partecipate. PS: can the number of votes be public now ?
  2. Failed to find any topic allowing actual free discussion about Armachinima, so assuming, it's not against some contest rule, I overlooked (sorry, if so), here is one. How did you choose your favourits amongst 130 entries and which? To avoid spending too much time with watching each of 130 entries, I used two step evaluation: 1. Spent few hours in total across few days to check every entry which means watching each as long, as it took to make me confident, is there something in it or not. First 30 seconds usually are enough to sift the latter. This way I eventually bookmarked 17 "finalistis". 2. Watched each of them and granted +'s in several categories (concept, visual, audio, camera work/montage, voice acting, music...). Then just sumed up pluses and voted on the three highest scores. Still, I would prefer to have at least 5 votes, with three I was forced to leave out of podium few really worthy entries just because there was three even more worthy IMO. I draw attention to the factors like: - is there any particular, original idea/thought behind or not and how it is told, - how authors are using a tool (Arma 3) to achieve desired result - how are used strengths and how avoided limitations, or how concept fits Arma engine possibilities, - how camera work/shots are done - is the story watchable as a movie, smoothly and understandable or awkward/chaotic, but also is camera work thoughtfully support desired effect or not (is it used as another artist's tool or not), - how visuals looks like (choice/lack of post processing effects etc.), - audio authenticity - very important to me as for immersion. For example if someone's voice in the open field sound like recorded in the small room - it's counted in minus. Attention to details and technical quality - radio comms, background etc, - Music usage. How soundtrack supports the storytelling. If it's present, where should be and not present, where shouldn't, how it works with montage, - the choice, with what scenes tell the story, what to show, what to omitt - storytelling dynamics, - and of course the final result as a whole. What feeling/emotional response, if any, it induces in me. Pluses was granted according to system: 0 - nothing worthy of mentioning, 1 - above average machinima level, 2 - estimable machinima level, 3 - pro machinima level, 4 - IMO something above machinima expectations, 5 - real-deal movie-like quality. 17 finalistis and their very subjective scores was:
  3. Bohemia Interactive & NVIDIA present the #Armachinima Awards Create the best cinematic Arma 3 video ever, win a top-tier NVIDIA graphics card Channel your inner-Spielberg, get your Scott on, and unleash the Bayhem. Welcome to the #Armachinima Awards! In this new contest, we’re inviting you to deliver the best Arma 3 cinematic video ever created – to entertain the troops, and to win a top-tier NVIDIA graphics card! What’s a machinima? The dictionary suggests: machinima / məˈʃɪnɪmə / noun: the practice or technique of producing animated films through the manipulation of video game graphics. For the purpose of this contest, an ‘armachinima’ is a directed cinematic video using Arma 3 game graphics. Whether it’s long or short, a full-length feature film, a documentary, a trailer, or even just an ‘experience’ – every type of video is welcome, as long as they have cinematic qualities. So prepare your storyboards, get ready to capture, enlist friends and family for (voice-)acting, and put the Eden Editor to use! But even if you’re not competing, you can participate by voting for the 10 nominees starting from February 14th. Afterwards, the Arma 3 development team will select 3 winners from the nominees, which will be announced in the beginning of March. Aside from glory, 1st place will be awarded a beastly NVIDIA GTX 1080, while 2nd and 3rd place will receive a magnificent NVIDIA GTX 1070 graphics card. The perfect prizes for those who are into gaming and video production! Additionally, all 10 nominees will receive an Arma 3 t-shirt. To enter the contest, you simply need to send an e-mail to competition@bistudio.com with a YouTube link to your entry AND a download link to the video file itself. Be sure to also include your contact details. The submission deadline is February 13th 09:00 CET (GMT+1). For more info on the #Armachinima Awards, as well as the full set of contest rules, be sure to check our website at www.arma3.com/armachinima-contest. We’ll also be updating this page with the latest entries, so check back regularly and prepare to vote from February 14th.
