  1. To address the earlier question, In Steam, I launch "Take On Mars [development]", but when greeted with the loader, I choose "Play Game" not "Developer Mode". However, it still says "Developer Mode" in the to right corner. Funny thing is, I have gotten some achievements (such as 33 hours on Mars) while doing this, but not others (such as researching/launching a Medium Rover for the first time). When I have gotten achievements recently, they always happen right after I saved the game. This could be a coincidence, or could be for a reason. Perhaps I did not get the latter achievement because I had it set up differently without realizing. So really I just want to know what selections do I need to make in Steam and in the Loader to make sure I have achievements turned on? As for Expedition 1... my only complaint is the controls for the humans are pretty awkward at the moment. They are sluggish to respond (I try to turn 90 degrees and end up turning 120 degrees), and the inverted controls don't really make sense when controlling a human like they would for certain vehicles. I tried to run up the ramp in the sample level and I had to come to a full stop at every corner otherwise I would run right off when trying to turn. Perhaps I just need time to adjust, and I figure actually waking on Mars might not be a piece of cake... but I think controls could use some work. On an unrelated note, I found out why a while back I was having trouble taking photos with the rovers. I am colourblind, and could not tell there was both red and the green cross-hairs. Also It was never clear to me that I needed to have 3 cross-hairs to make a photo, I had thought 2 was enough. Not saying you need to change the whole colour-scheme or anything, but just letting you know that perhaps other players may have the same trouble. I still have a little trouble making out red vs. green against the martian terrain... but I can manage. It was a big problem when I did not know what It was I was not noticing. Last - I am a total nerd for Mars with a background in Geology and Geophysics. If by any chance you want any extra help finding interesting facts about Mars to mention when you make a new discovery - I'd be happy to help. Every time the game uses the term "Phylloscilicates" an angel gets its wings.
  2. Wow. I should have realized that. I've been playing this game for months. Am I just an idiot then? haha. Sorry! Thanks!

    A few suggestions

Some good points here. I would suggest reading "Red Mars" if you want some good inspirations or ideas. I'm sure you have plenty to work with as it is though.
  4. Hey guys. I'm running into an odd problem. I landed a small rover in Gale Crater, and find that I cannot reach the target that allows me to continue the mission. I get the "Explore Complete!" message, and then the target stays underneath me. Strangest part is I can drive around and it will follow me. I have tried this mission 3 times, happened each time. Pictures below About to reach target http://i.imgur.com/UF0a9uD.png (3859 kB) Reach target, get exploration cash http://i.imgur.com/3KixBHm.png (2709 kB) target is still there... http://i.imgur.com/p8rXArA.png (2060 kB) Drove around a bit, target followed me, staying beneath me. Distance reads as 0 cm. The distance changed occasionally, sometimes was 1cm, but even when I am am at d=0, it does not seem to register that I have reached it. http://i.imgur.com/RkwMpRh.png (3364 kB) For some reason it never registers that I reached the target... and so I cant go on to take photos and measurements to complete the mission. Quite annoying.
  5. SUPER EXCITED to see this! Awesome! Two questions. 1. Is there going to be a "Storyline" or will it just be some vague "Build a base, survive, grow, thrive" theme. Although I would like to see a story-driven game on Mars in general, I feel like the latter would be the best extension from ToM 2. Unrelated: It seems in ToM when I subscribe to developments, it does not allow me to get achievements. Is this a recent change? I'm pretty sure I used to get achievements while playing the development copy.

Suggestions and errors of varying urgency

Thanks! My double-feedback Glad I could help find a new issue I'm pretty sure all the photos were "good" (Not too far or needing to be in color). Next time it happens I will play closer attention and let you know. Possibly related question: There are rectangles that light up in the HUD around the camera. What do these mean? I thought they were for aligning the shot... but I'm not so sure about that. The freezing problems were minor - Probably just a problem on my end. No worries! Sounds good! Sounds good! Turns out I am an idiot. I tried using "Clear" but I never actually sent the command... only typed it. My Bad! Tech Tree and Parachute updates sounds great! Are stars really visible on Mars during the early morning or late evening?. Perhaps they are... but It seems like something I would have heard or seen a picture of before if it were true. Just to be clear, I was saying that the "blank panels" should be present when building, but not after launch. At the very least fill in the hole in the rover from not having the Radioisotope Battery. This is more of a creative decision for you guys of course, and if you are happy as is, that is fine. I just find the "hole" in the small rover kinda awkward. All sounds good... and Yes, the new update made Mars look a lot better! I would love a full Gale Crater sized map - but I won't blame you for not wanting to support such a thing. My computer could probably not even run it. Can one create non square maps? Will modding be able to create vehicles with no use of in-game parts? Say for example an exact replica of Viking, Sojourner, or Opportunity, made from scratch? Thanks again. Great work! P.S. I got Take on Helicopters from the Humble Bundle sale and it is pretty fun! Although I'll have you know that your "Virtual Seattle" has replaced my uncle's 3-story apartment with a 20-story office tower. haha!
  7. Hey! I love the game! Here is a list of thing I'd like to bring up, some are really important (to me), some not at all. I'm sure many are already a WIP. My apologies if some of this gets pedantic... these are of course polite suggestions. Possible Errors: - I can't seem to land a small rover with High-Capacity Chemical Batteries. Every time I try, I end up on the surface with a low capacity battery. This happens if I launch after SPECIFICALLY clicking a designed rover with high capacity batteries. Even happens when I launch directly from the clean room after building it. - Sometimes when I take a picture of a target nothing happens. I had a few missions I had to start over from scratch because no matter how many photos I took of a target, it did not "register". - The game has been freezing up on me recently. This has happened three times thus far. Once when I accidentally hit F1 and started the tutorial, once when I launched a probe, and once when I started the scenario editor. I'm not sure If I have any more useful information. This is not a big deal though, it has not been very problematic. - On the Large Lander: Both the Mast and the High-Gain Antennae seem to prevent me from placing adjacent objects. Perhaps this is intentional? - I occasionally find a "point" I want to visit is like 3m off the ground and I cannot possibly reach it with rover. These ones are NOT part of a mission I am required to finish. Are these bugs or are they supposed to be for other missions that land there? Important Suggestions: - Command-Line needs a CANCEL function! A number of times I have entered "Forward 100 M", and then the rover slowly banks left due to a slight slope in the terrain and suddenly I am way off course and then I get jammed on a rock and loose a wheel. Not fun. - Re-organize Tech Tree - Having a series of tabs for each research category would be a much easier and faster interface then scrolling all the way across. - Parachutes never deflate after landing. This is cool when there are high winds... but looks really stupid in absence of wind. - Why are there are stars out during the day? I know Mars' atmosphere is thinner and the sun is further away... but I'm pretty darn sure you cannot see stars during the day. - When a rover/lander has a spot that is not being used, instead of making it a "blank panel", how about remove the panel all together. This is particularly true for "hole" left by NOT having a Radioisotope battery... it looks pretty silly. Perhaps it could have a "cover" that fits in the place if there is no battery? For all instruments - perhaps just leave it with a texture that looks totally uninteresting and does not look there is supposed to be something attached. It would add a bit of variety from one rover to the next, and would take away from the "Lego-like" feel of each rover being the same thing with different parts attached (even though they are). Not-so-Important Suggestions: - A "Clear All Notifications" button would be terrific - When you click on a location, you should be able to see the current weather there. As it is, you have to check notifications (that may have been deleted), or visit the surface. - New 3D map model is a bit too over-saturated (better than it was last update... but still a bit over-saturated) - What happened to the Quality setting on different parts? I admit I never noticed any difference in quality, so if that is why you removed it, no quarrels. I liked the idea though. Make a cheap rover that has a decent chance of failure or a expensive one that is super reliable. - Perhaps I am imagining it, or perhaps I am wrong, but I think storms on Mars are a lot less frequent then in this game, and I find them annoyingly frequent in-game. Perhaps you can tone it down a bit? Unless you have good reason for the current storm rate. - In the map in the control room the slight bobbing up and down prevents you from reading the mouse-over text for map locations. Quick Q's: - Are making Larger Maps something that could be left to the modding community? I'd like to see them, but I know that this is (and should) not be a big concern of yours. - I have NO idea what the debug triangle things do when I hit "B".
  8. Hey, First off. Love the game. I look forward to it's completion! So every time I start the game, it gets to the menu just fine, but as soon as I enter career mode it freezes. Upon returning to my desktop I am greeted with this message: http://imgur.com/GWExJb4 Any idea what this is about? The problem may be on my end since I have not yet seen similar posts by anyone else here. I have a SONY VAIO, Windows 7, 64bit, 8GB RAM, about 100GB HDD (Partitioned with Ubuntu, if that makes any difference) EDIT: Turns out It works fine when I start a new mission, just not when I try and play my old one. Is this a temporary error or will you be unable to play missions from prior to this update (which would not be much of a problem, I would just like to know) Here are some error and crash logs too: Error Log: --------------------------------------------- Log C:\Program Files (x86)\Steam\userdata\SteamIDNumber\244030\local\error.log started at 24.11. 13:57:14 Loading config '$profile:ccsettings.xml' Missing sound shader ambients/amb_wind !!! An idea to improve realism

I believe that time delay WILL be implemented. You will be able to set it to change the length of the delay, Somthing like 1x for full time delay, 0.5x, 0.1x or 0 for no delay
  10. I say this only because so much of the game strives for realism, but the asteroids in the asteroid belt are actually very far apart. You would not really have to be constantly maneuvering to avoid them. Not necessarily saying you should change it, but just making that observation. Also are/will dustdevils be a feature? I don't think they are actually much of a danger to crafts, but it would look neat! Awesome job though! Can't wait to try some of these new features.
  11. Hey! Neat ideas One of those features already exists, I discovered it by accident, haha. In the Free-float mode, you can use the scroll wheel to change the speed/sensitivity of movement.
  12. Hey guys! First let me say that I saw this game in the Steam Store... told myself I should really save my money, and then after a week of thinking about it decided it was too good to pass up, and bought it last night. I am not disappointed. I have played for probably 8-9 Hours. I love it. Nonetheless, Here are my suggestions and bugs I have noticed. I am running a SONY VIAO with Windows 7 64-bit if it matters. *UPDATED 10/3/13, because some of these things have been fixed and/or addressed elsewhere* BUGS: *If I land manually, the sound from the rockets never goes off, I can hear the engine roar throughout the entire mission. *During Landing, The Heat Shield looks comically large compared to the craft, and the exhaust/burn don't quite align with the thrusters. Similarly, the sky crane's cables dont align with the rover when landing sometimes SUGGESTIONS: *Weather warnings are really annoying. Instead of a pop up message for a storm at every location, perhaps have a "Weather Status" panel somewhere in the GUI that lists current conditions, and flashes red if there is a storm. Otherwise, during landing I have to close like 4 or 5 warning boxes about storms in all these different locations. *Ability to drive actual replicas of Curiosity, Spirit, Opportunity, Viking 1 & 2, etc. There are some with a strong resemblance, but I mean an actual replica. I imagine this as a scenario, outside of the main game, where you re-trace the actual mission. *I'd love to see the Victoria Crater map expanded so we can explore the entire route that Opportunity has been taken (Perhaps as an add-on?). I know it is huuuuge, probably too huge, but it would give an awesome feel for just how far the rover has travelled. *Tutorial that tells you what to do the first time you launch. I spend my first landing looking at the static screen being really confused until I by chance pressed the "c" button. I crashed though because I had pressed other buttons not knowing what was going on. *The stars are visible during early/late day (perhaps this happens on Mars, but it certainly should not happen in Mars Yard on Earth) ISSUES? (Could be me, could be a bug) *The first rover at Victoria Crater had no forward facing camera, only a back one, I had to back up to go everywhere. Perhaps switch the position to the front or add two cameras? QUESTIONS *If I choose Real Time mode, does that mean I am on the same schedule at the people who actually operate the Mars craft and have to shift their schedule by 45 minutes every day since Mars has a slightly shorter day than us? Like when it is sunrise on Gale Crater in game, does that mean the sun is rising on Gale Crater IRL? If so that is AWESOME. *Same question regarding placement and location of the stars over time. Overall though, this is AMAZING! The only reason I have so many suggestions is that after being so impressed by the realism and attention to detail (Like solar panels charging faster when angled towards sun) I started to think of what else could make it better, what could make it PERFECT? I actually study Geology and Planetary Science, so I was really happy to see the word "Phyllosilicates" in-game. Please continue to give this much attention to detail and the actual science behind Mars. THANKS!
