  1. Hi, great mod! I would just like to ask you, is there a way to disable the mod's radio chatter?

    Running / Sprint / Walk speed ?

Abstract: Standing Sprinting average over 1 Km is 18.7 Km/h Running with weapon lowered: Average over 1 Km is 18.2 Km/h Running with weapon raised: Constant over 1 Km is 8.94781 Km/h Walking with weapon lowered: Constant over 100m is 6 Km/h Walking with weapon raised: Constant over 100m is 6 Km/h Crouched Running while crouched and with weapon lowered: Constant over 100m is 13.0612 Km/h Running while crouched and with weapon raised: Constant over 100m is 4.50543 Km/h Walking while crouched and with weapon lowered: Constant over 100m is 4.68543 Km/h Walking while crouched and with weapon raised: Constant over 100m is 4.68543 Km/h Crawling Crawling in run mode: Constant over 100m is 3.41465 Km/h Crawling in walk mode: Constant over 100m is 1.80602 Km/h Mission used: Tests done over 100m and 1km, by logging results every second into the rpt file, using a trigger start line which starts a clock and ends the clock at the trigger finish line 1 Km away and is accurate to 1 second. Then the results are put into log files usable by Gnuplot. Graphs done by Gnuplot. Arma 2 OA 1.60 and Ace 1.13 and the ACE stamina system is used. here is theMission used. The mission is started behind the start line, however the clock begins after the start line. The character used is an ACE US Marine Errors: I have not done any error calculations. However the logging refresh rate was 1 second, and the distance zero error is given by: sqrt(A^2 + 3.5^2) - A, Where A is the true distance from the start line, and 3.5m is the maximum zero error when next to the measured point. So in all distances used, this error is negligible. Only one set of experiments was done due to time contraints. Test results: All tests done with a 10Kg load. The first column in the raw data files is time since crossing the start line, the second is speed and the third is the distance measured from a game object on the starting line. Graphs are provided and the average calculated when the speed is not constant. Where constant, the speed is given directly from the Arma 2 "speed" function. Sprinting: Average over 1 Km is 18.7 Km/h (to 3SF) source Standing: Running with weapon lowered: Average over 1 Km is 18.2 Km/h (to 3SF) source Running with weapon raised: Constant over 1 Km is 8.94781 Km/h source Walking with weapon lowered: Constant over 100m is 6 Km/h source Walking with weapon raised: Constant over 100m is 6 Km/h source Crouched: Running while crouched and with weapon lowered: Constant over 100m is 13.0612 Km/h source Running while crouched and with weapon raised: Constant over 100m is 4.50543 Km/h <-- Anomalous. Double checked, running is slower than walking. source Walking while crouched and with weapon lowered: Constant over 100m is 4.68543 Km/h source Walking while crouched and with weapon raised: Constant over 100m is 4.68543 Km/h source Prone: Crawling in run mode: Constant over 100m is 3.41465 Km/h source Crawling in walk mode: Constant over 100m is 1.80602 Km/h source Comparison of sprinting versus running with weapon lowered: Here the character is ran/sprinted until collapse, and the point of collapse is used as the end of the test. The finish trigger is removed. Sprinter collapses at 1335m (approximate according to raw data, no error calculated) source Runner collapses at 1290m (approximate according to raw data, no error calculated) source Zoomed in at collapse: Conclusions: What is surprising is that according to the above results, the runner never catches up to the sprinter, and in fact collapses before the the character who sprinted does. I can run another experiment with varying weights if there is sufficient demand for it, and also the effect of gradient, although finding a map with a slope of constant gradient with sufficient length may be unlikely, short of making my own map (alot more work).

    Faction fighting tactics

I 2nd that. It could be something along the lines an AI mod that is activated and overrides all others when executed for a specific soldier.

    Youtube "Matched third party content."

I double checked it and sent a dispute using the first option, saying they misidentified the content, and I haven't been punished so far, so it seems to be fine. I also looked through the EULA for A2 OA and I didn't see any mention of videos, although I didn't double check. It would be nice to know BI's policy toward game content recorded originally (not a BI trailer) as video media and published online.
  5. (I'm not sure where this thread should go, so I put it here as I believe the answer will apply equally to all BI games.) I uploaded a video which is purely Arma 2 OA footage recorded from fraps uploaded to Youtube, so NO music or anything else (i wasn't interested in making a fancy video). Then It got flagged as having third party content: "Your video, Tank practice Part 1 , may include content that is owned or administered by this entity: Entity: Music Publishing Rights Collecting Society Content Type: Musical Composition" Here is the video: I uploaded the second shorter part which is identical in nature except for it being much shorter and no copyright claim was made against it: I would like to know if BI feels I am violating any copyright agreement and whether or not I have permission to upload that video. I suspect this maybe an error on the part of Content ID, but I'm posting here to make sure, since "submitting an invalid dispute could result in penalties against your account.". Another possible cause is someone playing copyrighted music in the background when they where talking on TS. I'll have to carefully go through the entire 1 hour video to make sure.

    CoD clone!?! (Extra Credits)

None taken. Though I'm not so sure of the wisdom on their part in choosing a game cover with "Military simulator" written on it as an example of a 'CoD'ish arcade game even thoug it LOOKS modern day shooter like.

    CoD clone!?! (Extra Credits)

Sorry for bringing this up again I sent a follow up e-mail to them apologizing for bringing up an old issue.
  8. I was watching the "Ludus Florentis" episode and 04:07 in they used Arma II as an example of a "$50 million Call of Duty Clone". I don't know if anyone here thinks that Arma 2 is a CoD clone but I certainly don't. I believe the problem here is just that they don't see FPS Milsims as a separate genre (especially as they've never realy experienced it) and that theres a whole different approach to play, more so than any 2 mainstream/arcade FPS's. I also believe they don't understand that the audiences can be dramatically different and not necessarily compatible and that just because a serious sim game can be played casually, doesn't make it a casual game. I would like to ask people who have good points to contribute to please e-mail them (address at the end of their videos), to let them know why you think Arma is NOT a CoD clone and to please not flame them, as their statement may just have been a poorly researched one (something they rarely do), as overall they are a more considerate bunch. I've e-mailed them essentially the above along with Dslyecxi's guide as an example along with some other points. If any of you would like to see my e-mail I could post it up here.
  9. Is there a dedicated server (multiplayer friendly) version of the popup script? http://forums.bistudio.com/showthread.php?t=80594, this 1 loses count and doesnt work.
