I turned off my page file, I have enough system memory, the page file is used as virtual memory when real system mem is low (If I recall correctly), so if you have enough main mem there is no real need for a page file for 90% of all tasks, maybe video editing or something like that it might be useful to have.   6. Hey guys, I have done a search on the site for the problem I have to no avail. I'm running a windows XP dedi server and at seemingly random times during missions the clients will crash, the server is fine. This is only running 2 clients btw. I have tried testing the server HW mem and CPU but they all check out. I don't recall seeing this in previous versions of the server, but I also upgraded the server around the same time as 1.04 came out, poor timing in hind site. Has anyone else seen a similar issue?, or offer things to check, I'm out of ideas at this point. basic server specs (I'm not at home at the moment) core 2 duo 4gig mem (maxmem set to 2048, not sure if this matters,it failed without this set also) win XP sp3 Asus P5Q pro turbo mobo Croc4

So I have been playing for a few hours and it struck me that I don't seem to hear the animals move, or soldiers for that matter, normally there would be sounds as they moved across the landscape (broken twigs, leaves rustling, etc, etc), depending on the landscape of course. I think would be a nice feature. Imagine being behind the crest of a hill and you hear movement (leaves/twigs rustling), is it an animal or a enemy soldier?, I think that would add a lot more immersion to the game. Croc4

    How do you run a dedi server without requiring a second DVD?, I used the -server option, but that doesn't work, still asks for a dvd to be present Croc4

    ArmA 2 Demo feedback

    Gotta say it looks great, I'm actually getting good frame rates on my rig 44fps according to the benchmark, everything on normal, 1280x1024, AA,AS and post off. 2.4Ghz Core duo 3 Gig of ram XPSP3 9600GT (memory is a little fuzzy) 1280x1024 resolution. One thing that I chuckled over was the "look" of the game, several of us mentioned the look of COD4 and compared it to Arma1 a long time back, and the response was its(Arma) a sim, blah, blah. Well now how the tables have turned!, Arma2 has the "look" of COD4 and not one complaint, LOL. Anyway, it looks great, plays well, still getting used to the controls, if anything the default controls could be tweaked, but I know that is a personal preference, so there is no right answer. Overall I say BIS deserves a good long vacation and I hope game sales rewards you guys for a job well done. Croc4
  11. I really don't understand why arma can't be both, why does it have to be only one way? (coop only), I have played both single,coop and pvp maps and they are all enjoyable IMO, for PVP I play cerberus 5 maps, and they are enjoyable, some have aspects of more team play, others are more solo, but they still add some fresh air to the stupid AI/evolution din. I reject the notion that you have to change the base game for it to be PVP compatible, that is utterly and completely stupid. Is it as fast paced as BF2 or COD, no, but I don't see a problem with that, each person in game has the same "slowness" and it adds an air of "game realism", and dynamic that coop will never have IMO, at not least until AI = human thought (for good or bad). I also reject the notion that PvP = bunny hop, blah, blah blah, again very stupid, sure most PvP games use this crap, but it is NOT! a requirement, it is the "status quo". So to sum up, there is absolutely no reason that both can't co-exist together, one type of game play does not threaten the other, you can have both without changing the base engine. If you don't wish to play a certain map/game type, then don't its that simple, and Arma is a GAME!, so having multiple game types builds different aspects of the entire community, and not pigeon hole it to any one place. Well I see both sides of this, 1. maybe people just want to play and not interact with other players, you really don't know their situation. 2. is it reasonable to be able to communicate with team members that are not in your immediate squad? I think everyone being able to "talk" to everyone on the team is not really realistic (I know this is just a game, but every touts it as a sim...) but for online gaming it does help, is it needed...no

    RPG to rifle changes

    I'm sure I will get flamed about this, but when in a tense battle changing from rpg to rifle is like a slow walk in the spring. I can see why you don't want instant changes, but there is no sense of urgency. If I had my way I would like to see an option that allowed you to drop the rpg and switch to your rifle faster, then have recovering the RPG (picking it back up) take more time so that this does not become a normal use case. I know that if you plan your target and cover, blah, blah, but sometimes you get caught unawares and you have to wait for the sloooow weapon change while screaming at the screen Flame away!! Croc4
