Ageing soldiers, rusting vehicles

Recommended Posts

I was on a bus today (real life) and for some reason I took good notice of how "shuddery" the thing is and I thought "wonder how old this thing is and how many transportations (missions?) its done in total, which gave me a great idea for NGPCG what if good damage was possible like dents and scratches, even better if your cars eg civ car that u use or humvee over time rusts slowly, (this would be effective for a campaign?) say u had a nice shiny new humvee and if it survives the next mission, it would be possible to carry it over to the next mission and take this same humvee with you, with it rusting or dents or bulletholes and wartorn etc. tounge2.gif It would be sweet if also if this idea was implemented in the mission editor: have "fuel meter, ammo health, or rust/wear smile_o.gif

Also what about having ageing soldiers? (thx to pirates! pc game for this idea) this would be perfect for campaigns as it would see u young and very fit and the more u progress through the campaign you start to get older and u run slower etc tounge2.gif

good idea? or? banghead.gif

Vehicle wear maybe, but aging soldiers?? How long a campaign are you talking about? I mean about 10 years minimum would have to pass before you started being slowed by your age, I would think, and even then it wouldn't be much.

Damaged vehicles could be cool for a campaign like OFP:R, where resources are limited. Imagine, it's Mission 7 and you still have an old beat-up UAZ with a bullet hole in the window from Mission 1. tounge2.gif

That would be awesome. If all marks of the war can be seen in the next "missions" (if there gonna be any missions). But rust is a process of years, and hard to make dynamic imo.

Another thing I would like is to manualy clutch and shift a car, and then you can overheat your engine f.e. But thats not for this topic.

Ageing is not good imo. What would be better is to make the wounding system better. In all games I played, you get 100% fit after medic attention. In RL this would take several hours/days to recover from a hit in you arm f.e. . It would be cool If you can still "feel" the hit after a few hours playing.

Alright maby, u've got something there with 'marks of war' but aging soldiers, maybe if u're talking a ww2 campagin...

but, u shld change that, to being injured...

injurires do take time to heal,

EVEN with a trip to the most advanced hospitals with supre brilliant doctors,

I don't see being shot and going to the medic and being able to run perfectly well in the next minute.

This is only a game remember. Do you want to play it or be pissed off by it? Imagine spending the next part of a mission crawling because you cannot put weight on your leg injured previously. Or finding you cannot hit a barn door at 20M due to the injured arm you’ve got. Realism is for living, playing a game is for entertainment.

Just fuel for vehicles, and damage done by whatever would be fine anyway...

It would be neat if your character carried his wounds into the next mission (kind of like old-school ghost recon) or you had to wait and amount of time in RL before he would be good as new, that would be great to see in online play, maybe in co-op story modes?

It would be great if GAME 2 doesn't have CHEATING AI!!!!

I think that recovering from a wounds would be great maybe even being out of action for a period of time in a campaign or even in a multi-player session... here's how I think it would be anti boring:

First off you have a roster of specialist troops, your 12 unit more or less in reserve, once you go down wounded you can respawn nearby the main base with another specialist (a sniper maybe) while ur other body gets hauled back to the nearest med station by other AI (hhmmm sounds kool..) for recovery, amputation etc. crazy_o.gif or maybe even some players may take these roles of CASEVAC to the nearby stations.

How? well take the snippet from Solus Script "exellent by the way" for casualty evac. (with permission of course).

Obviously some needed tweeks and penalties would be in place if the opposing team opens fire on the the Meds. themeselfs once the main engagement has ended...

Maybe Skine some Civ. units with military fatigues to take care of the Medical business to prevent the enemy AI from blowing them away. It could work in Multi and Single player.

Where is the fun? if your a medic you'll get nice little points for saving AI the life.

Maybe have some engineers take up the role of towing and repair for vehicles...

PS. if you loose your AI reserve u take up the role of medic or engineer depending on what's needed decided by a script. of course once the AI is healed you may respawn in your own unit with somewhat less capable aiming system (annoying movement).

I can just imagen

Intense city assault...

Squad running full pelt at enemy

"WAIT FOR ME!" Guy limps up as fast as he can, followed by a UAZ with no windows and a huge tree shaped dent in the front.

That would be awesome biggrin_o.gif
