Check that your laptop is gaming in High Performance mode and not a power-saving mode like Balanced or Power Saver (Control Panel > Hardware & Sounds > Power Options)

Have you tried switching to the Perfomance build that is available on the Profiling branch?

https://community.bistudio.com/wiki/Arma_3_Steam_Branches

Also do you use any start-up parameters?

https://community.bistudio.com/wiki/Arma_3_Startup_Parameters

Finally, how much RAM do you have and you have an SSD?

OK but what about Perfomance build and/or start-up parameters?

I had a similiar problem like this on my laptop as well, where FPS would suddenly drop to single digit numbers for a few seconds. It did that in a lot of games, including old ArmA2.

Turns out it was overheating problem with my CPU. Whenever it reached around 90 degree celsius, the laptop was programmed to throttle and downlock CPU performance so it doesn't get fried.

Techically, you can use ThrottleStop to stop the laptop from throttling, but then again it's also quite a risk too with such high temperatures..

What is your CPU btw? have you tried monitoring temperatures as well?

Dear Deathstruck, thank you for replying to me!

I am already using ThrottleStop!

I think that the problem is something with the hard drive which spins down randomly but I am not so sure!

Please help me with the start up parameters, maybe that will help!

Personally wouldn't advise messing with parameters.

But to satisfy your search

Start arma up from steam. using the launcher  you will see on the left in the list of tabs(servers,mods... Parameters)

Hit parameters. Don't change alot then you'll know not what has been affected. I advise testing one by one. Starting with the first.

First things first.  The option in parameters at the top. Arma64 bit, 64 bit default,  or 32 bit.

If yours is at 64 bit roll back to 32 bit and test.

I believe during the first release of stable alot of people using laptops suffered from these problems using 64 bit arma. It was a driver issue with the mobile gpus not being selected over the on-board graphics.  have you updated your graphics driver?

Some had to go into the bios and force it to use only the gpu and not switch to igpu.

By advice wasn't to "mess with the start-up parameters" btu precisely to check that you're NOT messing with the start-up parameters.

Because, apart from switching from 32- to 64-bit, most of those parameters are now more of a hindrance than a help.

BTW, have you got space on your SSD to host the A3?

Because if you do, then try it.

The reason is that HDD in most laptops are slower (5400 rpm) compared to their desktop counterparts (7200 rpm) as this saves battery power and reduces risk of damage.

However the disadvantage is that performance is slower.

From the folder with the game, start arma3launcher.exe
Start parameters as in the picture
Note,
- the number of cores to match your processor
- the amount of video memory to match your VGA

Because if you do,

At a guess he has a 128gb ssd for the os

And no doubt the hdd is 5400.

Since when does an OS require 128 GB?

I suspect that there's a lot more there than just OS.

Any luck with the start-up parameters?

You'll find them in the A3 Launcher under the Parameters tab
