Vacation in Czech Republic / Prague

Recommended Posts

Hi guys.

I'd like to go to Prague for my next holidays (about 4 or 5 days).

Can you tell me when the best time is to go and visit the city?

Also, do you have some advice about what to visit in Prague, where to go, what restaurant is nice to discover, etc... and which hotel is a good one?

Thanks

PS: besides, if I go to Prague, will it be possible to pay a visit to BIS?

Thanks

Hi Wiki, I think Prague is a great place to visit, and I'd say each season has its pros and cons, but none is really better than the other. If you go in Summer, you might have nice weather. If you go during December, you could enjoy the Christmas markets. In terms of what to visit, there are the usual tourist hot spots including Prague Castle and Old Town Square, both of which are cool to explore. For the rest, I would make sure to enjoy the local cuisine (and especially the beer) - and there's plenty of great restaurants around. Some of my favorite places that cook somewhat traditional Czech food are Husa and Zlaty klas - but that's also because I lived in that area, and I'm sure there are many other great places around. For the rest, I believe you can even go for a tour in one of the beer breweries - and I could recommend you to see if you can arrange a trip to the shooting range as it's generally not that expensive here (and they're a bit more flexible with the rules than for instance in my home country The Netherlands). Also, you might want to go to Petrin and Letna park for some great views of the city. For the rest, you can pretty much walk everywhere In Prague and sniff up the local culture, and the public transport system is excellent (just hop on a tram and cruise around). There are also some pretty stunning nature areas right outside of Prague, and you could probably even go for some cool mountain-biking or hiking trips.

Sadly we don't allow studio visits as it would become too disruptive for development/developers. However, if you would happen to know some individual developers here, you can of course always try to reach out and invite them for a beer or two. Thank you for your understanding.

Hope you have a great trip to Prague. Enjoy!

P.S. If you have some more money to spend, and you're into Asian fusion food, then be sure to book a table at SaSaZu (and order the Crispy Roll - it's amazing) ;-)

been to prague 3 times now in the last 10 years, last one in march 2016, and yes i had planned a BI semi-impromptu visit but had my driving license suspended 2 days before leaving so i had to cancel my car rental etc.

It is in my top 3 capital cities in europe at least. For visiting, there is plenty out there to see, and also plenty guides based on your own liking (i ussually visit quickly the tourist stuff then move to contemporary art and more "up to date" museums".

I'd aim for summer since i am a sensitive creature and i don't really enjoy cold, last march was a mixed weather, sunny but windy and cold when the sun set.

For beer, you can't really go wrong.

For food, i usually ask about before i go, and also use a bit of luck + tripadvisor. I do recommend this place (https://www.facebook.com/divinecoffeewine/), everything was fantastic from food to wine (coffee not so much, but i ended up in another place next morning based on their own recommendations - need to find the place later on, great speciality coffee if you are into that and want a break from the "norm coffee i cannot go wrong with" - starbucks)

So, I'm going to Prague in early May.

As an ArmA addict, I would be really happy to meet BIS members, share a beer (or more ahah).

So I came back yesterday, and it was awesome!!

First, you need to check all these videos:

Second: change your money ONLY in the banks - not in any change desk.

They fucked me up.

Otherwise, you can pay by card or with euros.

I'll give you some good spots - and man! there are lots of them!

My only regret are:

-couldn't go to a dance club

-didn't have any answer hence couldn't meet any BIS guy

But all in all, I had a great time there.

Wow wiki, thank you very much for the videos, they are awesome!

From your personal experience, is it worth it to buy 24 hours Metro / Tram tickets to get around the city? Or is everything more or less in walking distance?

Hum...

Depends of what you want.

1) from the airport, take bus 119. it will take you to a metro station from which you can reach downtown prague. will be much cheaper than taxi. and it doesn't last very long. 90 min + 1 change (bus then metro) is 32 crowns which is about 1.5 euros

2) after that, it depends of what you want. I used the metro to go to the prague castle and to visherad castle. Most of the time, I just walked to enjoy the city. most of the things I visited could be reached on foot. but you can use the metro / tram / buses if you prefer.

I spend 540 euros in cash (and more by credit card because my wife wanted to to shopping lol) but lost 140 beause of the change comission at the change desk (where they fucked me up) and poker in casino.

So, for 2 people, 3 and half days, I actually spent 400 euros for food and visiting.

BTW, didn't visit the prague castle. too many people.

We will be going to Prague by car from Germany and we will be staying in a baroque Château on the north eastern outskirts of the city for a few nights.

Since I heard that it isn´t such a good idea to drive into Prague with a car, we will be leaving it at the Château and take the bus/Metro to the city :)

Maybe he went on the trip with the wife to take a break from his girlfriend. Seems only logical.
