Special Operation Forces Faction mod [SFF] that adds the US 75th Ranger Regiment. Also includes a small PMC Contractor force.

Historical Info-

The US 75th Ranger Regiment bridges the gap between a Special Forces unit and the regular military, with superior equipment and training to Army units but performing a wide range of missions including direct action, airfield seizure, airborne and air assaults, special reconnaissance, personnel recovery, and High-Value Target raids.

Motto- "Rangers lead the way."

The Faction-

The 75th Ranger Regiment faction consists of Ranger units wearing Multicam uniforms and armed with Daniel Defence mk18's and FN SCAR-H's. The Rangers use period accurate equipment and weapons based on photographs and helmet camera footage taken from July 2014 through to December 2015 deployment tour of the 75th Ranger Regiment to Afghanistan. Marksmen and command units are issued SCAR-H's, while regular Ranger infantrymen get Mk18's. They also have M249 SAWS issued on the fireteam level, with platoon level issue of MMGs.

Specialist Elements-

A small PMC Contractor faction is also included, with equipment dating to between 2008 and 2011 in Afghanistan and Iraq.
The PMC units consist of smaller teams, with lighter equipment, including mixed civilian and military equipment, armed with primarily M4A1 Carbines, supported by the occasional DMR or autorifleman- Many of the PMC's have significantly lighter armor and gear than the Rangers, acting as more security and HVT protection or bodyguards than actual frontline combat units. They also have a small bodyguard team for escorting allied HVT's or VIP's.

Supports-

Chinooks give the Rangers the ability to deploy platoon sized elements on the ground quickly, as a QRF or rapid assault force. They have forces varying from light recon units and sentry teams to full squads, as well as an MMG team for when greater suppression is needed. They have heavy heavy fire support if they need it, ranging from a RAH-66 Commanche gunship, M270 MLRS rockets and A-10 Warthog CAS. All aircraft are piloted by the 160th SOAR, a special forces aligned pilot unit, and they have a range of rotor aircraft such as MH-6 Little birds, Chinooks, and AH-6 Littlebirds.

The PMC contractors are grouped as Infantry units, and the various Ranger teams are Special Forces and Air Support.

Faction has full Editor, Zeus, Task Force Radio, ACE3 and ALiVE support (faction name BLU_AI )
Set ALiVE unit type to 'infantry' to spawn contractors, and to 'S.F' to spawn Ranger teams.

ANA (Afghan National Army) and ANA 2nd Commando 'Thunder' Battalion. I would like to thank Roadrunner in particular for help with the units look and appearance.

Special Forces Faction mod [SFF] that adds the Afghan National Army (ANA) and the ANA 2nd Commando Battalion- 'Thunder'.

Historical Info-

Commando units were formed in the Afghan Army in early 2007, and perform similar roles to the US Army Rangers. They often serve alongside other allied SF units, who serve as commanders and advisors, or as support, for the ANA Army or Commando forces.

The Faction-

The Afghan National Army makes up the bulk of the infantry force of the faction- they wear an older style uniform in M81 Woodland camo with older flat OD IOTV vests and light headwear, with some helmets, and carry a mix of Kalashnikov rifles and M4A1's. Standard sidearm is the Makarov for infantry units and the M1911 for Commandos or squad leaders. The faction, both the ANA Army and the Commandos, are based on 2007 to 2010 photgraphs- for the Commandos that means pre-ANASOC time period.

Specialist Elements-

The ANA 2nd Commando form the Special Forces element of the faction, and are equiped with much more modern gear, such a M4A1's and M4A1 CQBR's as standard, with Crye Gen 3 Uniforms and custom plate carriers, Opscores, Night Vision googles and lasers. They also have more access to magnified red dot optics, supressors and IR devices like strobes.

Supports-

The Army is supported by multiple Troop tranport or 50. Cal Techincal's, while the Commandos have light Gunships and MRAPs for supporting fire if needed.

The Afghan National Army are grouped as Infantry units, and the Commandos are Special Forces

Faction has full Editor, Zeus, Task Force Radio, ACE3 and ALiVE support (faction name ANA )

Set ALiVE unit type to 'infantry' to spawn ANA Army soldiers, and to 'S.F' to spawn Commando teams.

Hey jarrad, thanks for the awesome work!

I'm really glad you wish to create brazillian units. I'll leave a tip here, instead of doing a BOPE representation, why not make GRUMEC? They are a really bad ass navy SF team, inspired by american SEAL and french navy comandos. They were seen using HK416, olive uniforms and black vests during the brazillian olympics.

Hmm. I originally wanted to avoid any other Naval unit that is styled after the SEALS, to prevent role overlap, but I may attempt that unit if I can find some good sources. No promises though.

Right now I'm rather busy faction wise :)

Well thats a Ukrainian flag on the helmet right?

It's crazy how many countries SOF units are starting to look identical. You should look up "multicam" on wikipedia-you will see SO many different countries SOF guys wearing a version of multicam G3's, OpsCores and 6094 vests..Most also carrying some M4/HK416 variant.

But what I'm actually making as a faction right now is these- "Who Dares, Wins"

l46tJnC.jpg

Left- Special Boat Service, (SBS) Afghanistan deployment, Mountain regions, June 2013.

Centre, Seated- Australian Special Air Service Regiment. (SASR) - Armed with F88 as a placeholder until the SMA F90 is completed.

Right- British Special Air Service (SAS) Machinegunner, with 'Maximi' 7.62. Late 2015 to early 2016.

All three will included as a pack.

Could you
Make a modern day opfor faction as well? So we can use less mods for opfor faction (no current opfor faction uses sma)

Thats a good idea-maybe something interesting like Iran's Quds force? Keeping with the SOF theme. And some Spetsnaz...PLA...loads to choose from :) And since basically all SOF look identical these days...just change the names hahaha :D

I wanted to do the Mujahideen actually, as a kind of 'elite' enemy OPFOR unit- running a mix of Afghan robes and such, but with some more modern equipment and with some older body armor, tactical vests, maybe some NVG googles- Apparently those are filtering down to OPFOR units in the past few years.

Got no kit for the robes (yet, being made) so they are on hold for now.

I can do some generic African or European OPFOR though pretty easily- Boko Haram, Zimbabwe People's Revolutionary Army, some South Asia Sea pirates, some fictional OPFOR units, groups like that.

I can push the schedule for those up to Jan/Feb if you want them soon.

Also the ANA are INDEP forces, not BLUFOR, so if you wanted them to be the enemy for (Insert something about ANA being unreliable as hell) you can.

PLA would be a piece of cake if I had the camo- we have the various QBZ rifles from Apex I could use.

Yes!! so good to see the SASR making it in. As an Aussie it's exciting to see us making appearances in mods or at least ones that get finished. Don't feel like we get enough recognition in games along with our kiwi brothers.

ANA Army and ANA 2nd Commando now available for download, check the ANA post above.

I'll also be going over the other factions, expanding some, fixing a bug where the magazine was not loaded in a unit's weapon, and adding more smaller, 'secondary' units like the PMC's, who are too small or specialised to be a standalone faction by themselves-

Air Force Pararescue (PJ's) "So Others May Live" have been added as an airbourne medical team for the SEALS.

Foxhound, if you wait a day or so I will be updating all of the factions with new things or bug fixes, so it might be better to do them all at once.

I want to thank you again for these amazing mods. Im a huge military buff (as I assume everyone else here is). And these just make me happy to see all the time.

I was wondering if perhaps you could make a tutorial on how to make your own units? I make tons of load outs in VAS, but I dont know how to have their own tab in the editor.

But most of these guys use AKM... SMA has no AKs yet (although they are cooking up some modernized ultra tacticool version).

Who would be your AK provider?

I want to keep it low weight, mod wise- the ANA are using Apex AKM's and AKS-74U's within the ANA Army forces- In 2008-2010 both M4/M16 and AKs were used alongside each other.

However, if I do decide to a modern military that uses Kalashnikov pattern rifles, such as a Russian or Eastern European Special Forces group I will likely use NIA Arms AK's- they are glorious quality, well performing weapons, without the huge dependencies of RHS or CUP.

I originally considered the AK-12, but that is not actually in use in large enough numbers now as it's so damn new- it's been undergoing design change after design change for years now, and while I have seen alleged photos of it with deployed Russian SF groups it's still not common by any means.

I considered the ANA forces using Apex AK's a good compromise-At the time the faction is portrayed they did use the older models (full wooden, post-1980's European vintage, I research) AKM model that Apex has.

At the current time, 2016, the ANA 2nd Commando has radically changed, and they currently use M4A1's alongside AKM's that have been modernised with RIS conversions and their own national designed uniform camo pattern. I wanted to portray the period of time around 2008-2010 within the Afghan military, as I found it very interesting to have both NATO and PACT weapons at the same time- it gives them a distinct style and makes for unique combat situations. I can provide photographic sources for both the older, Ingame faction and the post ANASOC (2011) forces via PM, if you doubt me. I also had 2 consultants- 'M-------' and Roadrunner.
