ww4_Insurgent _Trouble

Recommended Posts

Hi,

This is just a quick mission that I threw together in a couple of days to try out Kenoxite's WW4 expansion.

Hopefully I can have a few more by next week (if time permits).

Features:

-Basic town raid type map, somewhat coop style

-Full briefing and overview

-Weapon selection at briefing (some bug with launchers)

-Infantry units from Keno's expansion

-Some vehicles from expansion

-Some objects from expansion

-Keno's dialog menu

-Land chopper script by Snypir

-Helocopter dust script by Vektorboson

-Random patrol script by ])rStrangelove

-Multiplayer compatible ? (not tested)

edit: Revised to v.09b

-Fixed music level and duration in intro

-Moved insurgents from east to resistance side

-Reworked triggers to make enemy more reactive

-Implemented invisible rucksacks

edit: Revised to v.09c

-Minor tweaks

-Added driver for truck

-Added auotsaves

edit: Revised to v.09d

-Added night option

-Made driver get in truck

This will most likely be the last update for this mission.

Requirements:

WW4mod2.5 http://www.moddb.com/mods/sanctuary1/downloads/ww4-modpack-25

Patch1 http://www.moddb.com/mods/sanctuary1/downloads/ww4-modpack-25-patch-1

Kenoxite's WW4 Extended: http://forums.bistudio.com/showthread.php?154829-WW4-EXTENDED-Unofficial-expansion-for-WW4-2-5&p=2393099&viewfull=1#post2393099 (including all of the extras)

Also included is another mission that I made for the LOL server back when we started to play WW4mod. I made a few new fixes to make it more challenging. It's a coop misison but it should be playable as single player or in MP host mode.

co12@_ww4_desert_breeze_v2.WW4_DesertEden2.pbo

Should only need WW4mod2.5 for this.

I've only been able to play up to the first check point so far (too busy :/). But it seems quite promising.

Some very minor things I've noticed and you might want to consider:

- Occasional small shot of crew inside helo (player POV) when changing cameras in intro. Fixed by placing second cam logic closer, but it breaks the nice rotation cycle

- You could add the WW4 EXT init to vanilla WW4 vehicles (BTR), so tracers work on them, etc: [this] exec "\WW4EXT_scripts\eh_land.sqs"

- That particular track is quite loud, you might want to consider reducing the music volume through fadeMusic (0.3 seems to be fine)

- Maybe an initial fade to black, for the occassional chance that the camera inits too late and the player is again shoen briefly before starting:

Init.sqs code mixing both suggestions above:

titleText ["", "BLACK IN",99999]
0 fadeSound 0
~0.02
0 fadeMusic 0.3
1 fadeSound 1
titleText ["", "BLACK IN",3]

- Also, you could end the music once the insertion is done. In the landing WP, on activation: 20 fadeMusic 0

- If the reason for not including the rucksacks logic was aesthetic you can have them activated but hidden, by using an appropriate enable logic for the rucksacks and then the "Invisible rucksacks" logic (found in /Others). That way you have the functionality without the visual aspect. If you decide to not disable rucksacks you might want to add some bandages to your units, to increase survivability. It seems it's a quite long and hard mission, so both extra ammo and more healing options would probably be welcomed. You can add bandages to the player's group automatically by writing this (in init.sqs, etc): {[_x] exec "\WW4EXT_scripts\add_bandage.sqs"} forEach units player;

I'll see if I can play it fully and come back with any good feedback.

BTW, seeing that you're officially the first mission maker for WW4 EXT, have you find any particular gameplay issue with the EXT units? Anything you think should be tweaked somehow? (balance, etc)

I just tried to play the mission and I keep getting an error about a missing ww4ext_weaponry addon. Did you have anything like this when testing?

I also noticed that it needs the mi2no addon, so perhaps you can edit the first post to alert other people about it. ;)

Extras means 3rd party addons supported by WW4 Ext: OWP Mi-2 and BAS H-60/H-6.

Thanks, I was missing the last update. I thought that the mirror on the first page was the most updated one, guess I was wrong.

The link to your Desert Breeze mission is a mail one (mailto), not a hypertext one (http).

The fourm took it as email because of the @.

The file is in the archive of v.9a.

Slowly coming back to life after mine examination session, so I had some time to try this mission. Thoughts so far:

- I really like the wrecks south from Houdan, they really add to atmosphere (and allow me to "camp" there before assaulting the city)

- sometimes chopper tries to land on the truck, it happened to me two times but seems to be pretty random (BTW: was that truck included in WW4, or EXT? I don't remember it...)

- the truck itself seems to be a distraction to me - I left it before attacking the checkpoint and never came back to it (though it sped up mine way to the checkpoint)

- maybe change time of day? I think that during night this mission would look great, just don't forget giving NVGs to Marines.

Overall, very nice mission, though I haven't finished it yet. But I will! :)

@krzy

Thanks for the feedback. I think kenoxite took that truck from OPGWC and retextured it. You kind of need it to resupply. AI helos have a mind of thier own, it takes special scripting to make the behave properly. Move the LZ point a bit may help. I could make a night version or maybe make it selectable. I was thinking about adding an autosave between objectives also. I have kind of moved on to other mission ideas, but I could get back to fix this.

Or maybe even make it randomly start between 0:00 (12 PM) and 12:00 (12 AM)?

I was thinking about adding an autosave between objectives also.

Great idea!

About the truck - main gripe is that I don't have nobody expendable so I could assign him as a driver. I was assigning this task to medic, but after firefights I was struggling to make him get out of truck, heal the comrades, and get in vehicle again. So maybe add one weakly armed guy to the team, or have him near the truck, so he'll join player's team when it lands?

Just chiming in to mention that the truck is a retexture by Macser (Maczer now), based on the original BIS model. It was as welcomed as unexpected. The trucks are also available to download separately, and are free to use by anyone. The link must be somewhere buried in the EXT thread. Hello, I was curious with this mission but I keep getting errors despite downloading everything in the list. The error says: missing addons ds_walls.

Hoping you could help me out. I loved Desert Breeze v2 btw, too bad the AI doesn't lead and I hate being the leader. Cheers to you, mate.

Hi aodtonix,

if you're still around or everyone else wanting to play the mission, in order to get rid of the "ds_walls" error, the file you're looking for is called ds_obj.pbo and can be found in "Operation Gulf War Crisis" mod fo instance here: http://ofp.gamepark.cz/index.php?showthis=8101

Just in case, a lot of the stuff is also in the LOL Clan's addon compilations for their servers...
