ah units cool mate

just taking a beer break from a heavy fight in the first city- you ideally need 6 men including 1 in air to make this mission a success

in terms of units, we often use:

FR_Commander / officer

FR_Sapper / engineer

FR_Corpsman / medic

FR_Marksman / sniper

FR_Assault_GL / grenadier

USMC_Soldier_AA / anti air

FR_AR / machinegunner

USMC_Soldier_HAT / antitank

USMC_Soldier_Pilot / pilot

USMC_Soldier_Crew / crewman

and that's about it

well im off to bed. im leaving 5 GITS players and 2 public in there to finish the second city and take the third. will be back on tomorrow to attack the next cities. it's exciting to visit these new places and fight there for the first time... the side missions are awesome too. great island ice. thanks for all your hard work on it.

Jebus this is much harder than usual, brilliant tho. Excellent combination of island and evo.

Some bugs:

Lose your weapon after being revived.

Find yourself in the sea washing ashore for no reason.

Engineers cant repair.

yeah the normal arma2 soldier engineers cant repair without a truck

we dont play with revive on as it seems to cause lag and is a bit ropey.

it is a damn hard mission - you need an AA guy and a pilot working full time! or you just need to learn to hide

Played 15 hours since yesterday :D

Cant capture the officer is a certain class needed?

We just shoot him normally, dunno if its a bug or feature you cant hit planes with sidewinders or Stingers actually easier to take them down with HE rounds than firing stingers they never hit.

What bugs me is 5 public players have joined our server since yesterday for a mission and map this good its really weird only 5 have joined. Its maybe that they cant see the server or something but very stange that an Icebreakr map combined with evo gets only 5 public players.

i think its cos of OA tbh. some peoiple have a2, some have OA and a smaller subset have both. the mission made by a true arma freak is always going to be combined ops, and hence the casual gamers who have a2 or OA but not both get excluded... :(

you should be able to capture the officer. we can. if it's a certain city let me know which.

here's a few tips to make EVO play the best

regarding sidewinders and hellfires:

get in the cobra/apache/etc as pilot (and not as gunner)

click manual fire

you can now lock the missiles on target

to reload the chopper you get in as gunner right? from then on you cannot lock the missiles as pilot only. only after the heli has been destroyed and respawns can you again get in as pilot and then lock... sucks ass but that's an OA bug. this does not apply on your own server (on your client machine, all vehicles are local to you so the missiles never lock as pilot)

for stingers etc:

they have adopted the MMA type locking function in OA. you get a lock, hold it, wait for the tone, then fire, keep it locked as long as you can, if the tone breaks TAB and TAB again to re-acquire, then fire again.

the enemy has countermeasures (as do you) so you need a lot of missiles. we usually have 3 of us firing together to ensure the countermeasures fail. we put 4 stinger firing vehicles and 2 launcher pods in the base to help.

TIP: get a pilot in the F35 (which rearms with 8 sidewinders) to routinely clear the sky. IF the base is busy, respawn HMS GITS and fly from the carrier.

lastly, to stop the enemy caning you:

high skill means they use great tactics

low precision means they are not all one shot killers

then if you rent a dedi, set this command line startup parameter

-server -port=2300 -mod=@CBA;@Lingor -profiles=E:\xxgames\ROBG\GameServers\TC72378756645241343275023\server -name=server -config=server.cfg

where your config is in

"armaroot"/server.cfg

this works so well we're never gonna change it

Version seems different to the one above. Good fun when working with a team the last town was taken very quickly i like the route altho doubt i will ever see the last town.

Great server Jigsaw was getting red locks on some GITS lads with the Harrier :o Yitsack couldnt join the squad full maybe? So he got Tked a few times as he had no diamond.

Capture works but we couldnt refuel our tanks after we repaired them. Wasnt much enemy air is that a new option ?

there wasnt much enemy air cos we had bad samaritan up there on overwatch ;)

you get red locks when people are in captured vehicles which we do a lot

if we knew you were all together we could have joined thelast man in, which you have to do cos of playerlist not updating for the guy joining. still an old bug that needs fixing

Any way this could be setup so that you can save your gear loadout at the ammobox, so that when you respawn you are ready to go back?

Also would it be possible to allow for the Ace poor man's revive to work rather than using norrin's revive, for those of us running this mission on an ACE server?

Weapon saves workes but is intermittent, i go to each of the 3 ammos boxes until it works then your good to go. Comes up on the top rigth when it works.

weapon save solution:

the weapon save function only works if you go into GEAR menu from STANDING. It does not work if you are crouching.

so go to crate, stand up, access crate, take weapons = saved.

if you run out of ammo in the field and want to take an enemy weapon on a permanent basis... either STAND, GEAR take weapon = saved OR CROUCH/PRONE (cos you're bing shot at), GEAR take weapon = not saved. you can then crawl behind a tank/ building, STAND UP, press GEAR key and = saves.

If you want to take a weapon temporarily for the firefight, but respawn with your old weapon, then take the weapon in prone/crouch and do not enter GEAR menu from standing until after you die.

simple?

the other tip is: when you access GEAR make sure you have your PRIMARY weapon on. if you have pistol/rocket on it saves this as your primary and you respawn with pistol in hand etc... pain. to recover from this bug, put your rifle in your hand, stand up, press GEAR key. job done.

Edit, the save gear script doesn't work for me or anybody else no matter what.
