New APC for the CDF

Hi,

After the successful Kick me sign I've made a new vehicle based on the GTK Boxer for the CDF forces. This is my first wheeled addon so it might does not live up to your expections.

There are similarities with the camo pattern of other nations but that is just coincidence and was not on purpose.

Only thing bothering me, is that there are no damage textures yet.

Does anyone have the same?

SWT, can you make a ban hammer? :D

I 2nd this request. Add spikes to the hammer as well, maybe set it where whoever gets hit by it get's banned. :D

I don't think this addon is fit to be released already, it is WIP yet, imho not even beta status so far. Although it is a very promising nice model, it has quite a few small and big issues yet, e.g.:

- damage texture is not loaded because of a typo in the config ("dammageFull[]=...")

- damage texture is not done, it's just a placeholder (plain dark grey with "MP5 navy" writing in it for whatever reason^^)

- editor placing texture is not correct

- the main texture still could use quite a few more details (it has none so far)

- boarding the vehicle only from the right is weird, should be possible from around the aft door

- model error: the bottom part is missing, the axles are floating in the air.

- using the default truck sound as placeholder (granted, no one has a clue so far how it really sounds, but probably not like a Ural, maybe you can ask to use the Stryker sound from the ACE package)

- gunner position not done yet, parts of the hatch untextured

- no gun mounted (should have a FWS200 with either a 7.62mm MG3, 12.7mm M3M or 40mm GMW)

Apart from that and generally speaking, releasing the server key is welcome, but useless as long as there is no bisign file for the pbo.

And of course having UK markings doesn't make much sense, because the Brits bailed out of the project several years ago and then later chose the Piranha, so now only the Dutch and German army will receive it (200 respectively 272 units, roll-out starting this year).

Thus, NATO 3-color pattern with markings for those two armies would definitely make more sense. You can check e.g. the Wikipedia page for reference photos: http://commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/Category:GTK_Boxer

And the same pattern with exchanged colors would be used for arid areas like Afghanistan, that would look similar to this Dingo: http://www.panzerbaer.de/colours/a_relaunch/bw_atf_2_dingo_1.htm or with only two colors (sand and brown).

Regarding the modelling work that still needs to be done, it might be a bit too early to start doing the texture details. But I'd be willing to contribute some texture work if you want (and can't convince one of the texture gods lingering around here to do it^^).

@Brainbug, although there are errors with the addon the changes you suggest can be very complicated to actually put in place. Creating a working gun for example can be very hard to do if you haven't done it before.

So i supppose that makes it an alpha then... :p

to be honest id like to grab this and use it for my dutch guys in the next release of that package. I am more than willing to take on the retextures, including new detail textures, normals etc...but I could probs use some help either from the original author with fixing the model and config issues.

They are not necessarily using always the same pattern in desert regions, but are obviously adapting to the environment (which definitely makes more sense than to stick to some defaults that some desktop general has thought out^^), here a few examples on the widely used Fuchs APC (all from Afghanistan):

It's pretty safe to assume that the new Boxer will be used in Afghanistan as soon as it is delivered to the troops (this autumn), and it will certainly be painted in similar camo patterns then.

@STALKERGB: Yeah I know it's a helluvalotta work still to do, I was just trying to point out that it's definitely WIP and not a final version, as the Armaholic link suggested. I'm eager to see progress on this model, I didn't mean to have a go at it. It is not bad just because it is not finished, quite the contrary.
