Gunter Severloh 3939 Posted November 6, 2011 Hi. Nice idea, no offense or anything of the like, but I dont see the point of this when you can turn the recognize off by not having the file in the server's @ACE \addon folder. or am I wrong? This file ace_sys_recognize.pbo if removed will disable that feature. The feature: From the ACE wiki: Recognize Feature Magic Rangefinding is disabled. That means you can no longer see the distance to where your crosshair is pointing when pressing spacebar. Also the "spacebar-scanning", which would allow you to spot enemies behind buildings or landscape, is disabled. Additionally you can see names of passengers in vehicles (temporarily only for Spacebar and Mousewheel activation). Mission Makers To disable the recognition system you can put this somewhere in any init line. ACE_NO_RECOGNIZE = true; publicVariable "ACE_NO_RECOGNIZE"; To restore the ability to be able to see name tags of friendly players you have the following possibilites: (2) Constant scanning, similar to BI behaviour, just point crosshairs at player (1) MouseWheel, in order to see name tags, scroll the mousewheel (0) Spacebar, 'eased' spacebar scanning instead of mousewheel You can find this setting in the ACE Settings Dialog. Default is constant scanning. Also note: Visibility of name tags depends on distance. I'm not trying to belittle your work, no doubt it is a good idea and a maybe simple way to make a quick adjustment, but I just thought maybe it would work if you just removed the file in the addons folder on the server, instead of trying to override something that can be removed. Again maybe I'm wrong, if i am I'm sorry. If this works better for Ace host's then by all means.
.kju 3239 Posted November 7, 2011 Günter this addon is server side only to enforcement for all clients. Your method is client side only.
Gunter Severloh 3939 Posted November 7, 2011 So if the file ace_sys_recognize.pbo is not in the @ACE addons folder "on" the server, that the client who has that file would indeed still see the influence of that file or feature while on the server, but with this addon basically disables all the clients, correct? So how does it do that?
Robalo 465 Posted November 7, 2011 Günter, sys_recognize is strictly a client-side addon, it doesn't matter if the server has it or not. This addon does what it says in the first post, it controls the default behavior of the connected clients. I do the same for various features with my Appendix mod. As for how, you already quoted it (the mission makers part).
