Afghanistan-Uruzgan-Shahidi Hassas

hey guys,

i created this thread to show progress on my afghan map. first of all some basic data:

- 20kmx20km

- located in Afghanistan

in the Uruzgan province

in the Shahidi Hassas district

- features sandy mountains and a vast green zone

- there's a small city in the north

- the fire base cobra is located in that area (some may know it from a documentary called "inside green berets")

- a nice big winding river across the whole map

state of progress:

vegetation: 98%

buildings: 70%

roads: 85%

all that's left is some detailing and a bigger part in the north west which hasn't any buildings yet.

some people may still know the Arma2 version of this map. this one isn't just the same with OA objects. i tweaked the terrain alot and the satmap is very different also.

nono. this will only use OA objects. and the city is pretty small. so no worries:). my graphics card sucks too;).

what i wanted to say is that i not only replaced the objects. i updated everything (heightmap, satmap, etc...). hope that came across clearly.

Looks awesome. Will this map be a single download or will it have requirements/dependencies?

Great work so far, might consider putting a little bit more green in the green zone but thats just my opinion. Not sure how that would effect performance. :)

This looks like many of the videos shown on liveleak involving CAS and small scale battles.

Any chance of a large compound built onto a hill. Namely the one that housed all of the afghan prisoners that was over run. I think a CIA guy or 2 were lost in that prison takeover.

I cant wait for the release. good work keep it up!!:yay:

damn....this is one of the best maps iv seen in awhile, even better then takistan! cant wait to play on this map!

It's looking good so far brother. we really need proper grape fields in game, i'm not sure how easy that is to do as dr suess would have a difficult time drawing them. A grape hut model could go a long way on this map.

That looks farken sweet!!!! Very nice looking map, always wanted some larger green zones to make missions in, the ones in the Takistan map always felt a bit too constrained and corridor like... basically the opposite of the ones in this map!!! :D

This looks very nice, we have a big need for large big maps.

Having a map double size of Takistan is much needed and great news.

Hope you manage to stay away from copy pasted areas, as when flying they are very easy to spot.

Eagerly awaiting this released.

Looks very nice! the only thing else I could wish for is a little more bushes in the flat green-area, and some small height-variations there etc. for more cover. :) I'm really looking forward to this! it came out of the blue. :)

thx for all the kind words everyone.

i'll try to answer some questions now...

there will be more bushes when i start to set up the fields of wheat and poppy. i'll use them to seperate the fields from eachother. also keep in mind that there is not one small wall placed yet. those will also offer alot of cover.

i'll have to see about grape fields. maybe i'm gonna simulate some with lined up bushes. but i'm not gonna model anything new. too much work besides making the maP itself u know;)

and about the copy and paste. of course i did that. but only for the walls sofar (which is understandable i think). other than that i placed all the houses inside the compounds by hand sofar.

can't wait for this map! I hope there will be more high/medium wheat field around the villages, because farm-firefight is kinda cool coz you can feel the fragment of shell flying around the wheat! And more rocks for cover too :rolleyes:.
