Thread: Stabilized Camera

  1. #1

    Stabilized Camera

With AO coming, I think this feature is a must have. We crave for ground stabilized camera for use in various Air and land vehicles. It's a comon feature even on older types of chopper and not present in ARMA. Not having ground stabilized camera also negates the purpose of aircraft like the MQ-9.

I'm afraid there's no stabilized camera in AO, cause in the vids we saw the drone was a Ah-6 ( come on ? an Ah-6 to guide the hellfire of an apache ?). There were no vids taken from aa drone that cannot hoover.

So please give us a ground stabilized camera easily integrable in addons.

    Again with the AH-6X issues.

Do a search and you'll get your answers. It's a real thing.

In terms of the camera what exactly do you mean? Being able to lock on a certain point and hold the camera there while the drone moves? I believe that will be included in OA.

Imho he is meaning a steady cam with userfriendly manual/automatic scanning mode.
While the AH-6X ULB from Boing is still in experimental stage the MQ-8B UAV "Fire Scout" from Northrop Grumman is operational and in use. Guess that BIS cant know all of the military world and which systems might be used and which are only burning money. BIS rolled the dice and decided to revamp the AH-6 and implement some new features. We can only hope that they are working good with and without AI.

I think he's talking about a camera that can fix on a point in space and will move relative to that point. So, if you aim it at a point on the ground, it will track that point on the ground no matter how the helicopter is moving.

    The AH-6x is real. Believe.

We do need support for a stabilised camera.

I've been shocked to find the UAV view in ARMA2 doesn't have stabilised view and features like lockon to a point / object etc. (until gymbal limit / range limit anyways).

I've had a little to do with the FLIR / DTV turrets used in coastal surveillance aircraft and they certainly have such features so surely UAV's do too??

Also, I'd have thought that even without implementing such things as those tricky camera functions, the whole point of using the UAV would be that it would act like a "unit" and report any vehicles, men etc. along it's waypoint route so they show on player's map and come in as realtime reports...

It's all the more unbeliveable that the camera.sqs has it already since OFP...

I see that Ah6X is real but the point is that using a Ah6X instead of a MQ9 or even a kiowa to guide the Ah64 hellfire shows that BIS haven't modeled any vehicle capable to provide a stable laser for the Apache.

Plus I don't know If a AH6X would be used for these scouting operation, it's big , it makes a lot of noise and it flies low, and it does nothing that a MQ-9 can't do.

Provide an alternative? Vertical takeoff and landing instead of unknown takeoff and crashlanding? Carry troops? If the MQ9 actually worked better, maybe the mission designer wants the bigger challenge with having a noisier and easier to hit laser carrying platform?

Have I seen any Hellfire misses with the latest OA videos? No. To me that means its pretty stable.

You don't understand what i'm trying to say , may-be I'm not clear enough.

IRL in a somewhat dangerous environement dangerous you would not use a AH6X to lase target, because of two reason. Firstly a AH6X even if it's a quite silent aircraft still makes a lot of noise and would alert enemy of your presence. Secondly a AH6X doesn't fly high enough or fast enough to avoid MANPADS and AAA.
What would perfectly do the job is a MQ9 flying at high altitude.

    What I meant by this
shows that BIS haven't modeled any vehicle capable to provide a stable laser for the Apache.
    is :
It is possible that BIS have chosen the AH6X because it can hoover and thus negates the need for a proper ground stabilized camera.
