Thread: Input Lag

    Input Lag

So I've seen a number of threads on this, but none that really solve my issue.

I have this input lag, and this includes my mouse and keyboard actions.

If I move the mouse, I get like a half second delay before it responds. If I move forward, backwards, left or right with my keyboard, I get the same half second delay.

Now if I'm in the game menu, I don't get this lag at all.

I've done some previous suggestions like "Disable V-sync" in my video options, as well as turned down video settings.

I can't seem to get this to work.

    Hi Duck,

I had this problem before (although your case seems more severe) and was able to solve it (at least to a point it is not noticeable anymore). Steps that worked for me:

    - Check you have 1.05 installed
    - Reduce gun floating area to zero
    - Play with the GPU_MaxFramesAhead variables in Arma2.cfg (a value of 1 worked for me)
    - Play with the smoothing scrolbar in the controls menu (mine is almost zero)
    - Defragment your hard drive periodically (I use myDefrag tool)

    Good luck!

You mouse lag could be caused by too high video settings for your system, whats your system specs and whats your ingame video settings?

Also try fiddle with your mouse settings under controls:

I checked and I do have 1.05 installed. As for GPU Max Frames, I'm not sure what that is, but I'll give it a shot.

The smoothing scrolls bar I want to say didn't do much. Also I'll give my system a good ol' defrag to see what happens.

I haven't tried messing with the Y Axis or X Axis setting for my mouse, but also bear in mind this happens on keyboard inputs as well (And also just tested) but controller inputs do it too. I have a Logitech controller that I use for flying, and it has the same kind of delay.

As for my computer settings, I have...

    Dell XPS Studio 16
    Intel Core 2 Duo 2.40GHz
    4GB Memory
    Windows 7 64 bit
ATI Radeon HD 3670 (512 mb)

My settings on the game are mostly low to medium. Shadows disabled, but view distance is somewhat in the middle.

The games run pretty smoothly, no frequent studders or anything.

You should be able to find your Arma2.cfg file in C:\Documents and Settings\"your user name"\My documments\ArmA 2. In it there is a variable called GPU_MaxFramesAhead, which determines how many frames will be displayed in advance (thus, for that number of frames your input will have no effect). A value of 1 worked for me. By the way, how many fps do you get with that 3670? Also make sure you have latest graphics drivers installed.

    Regards.

    What about your resolution?

Your box ain't a monster when we are talking ArmA 2

Go to your ARMA2.CFG and set these 2 lines to appropriate values:

    GPU_MaxFramesAhead=1;
    GPU_DetectedFramesAhead=1;

The first is set to 1000 originally wich means its NOT set. Try set them both to "1" like my example above. Then in the game - options - controls - smoothing: set to about 20-25%.

Now your mouse should be more responsive.

    YES! That did it!

So, just for technical knowledge, will this change have any negative affect on my gameplay? What exactly do these settings do?

These settings were introduced in the beta patches in the latest months. DetectedFramesAhead just shows the value Arma2 is using for this property (it might get it either from MaxFramesAhead or from the GPU drivers configuration). I guess BIS should include this in the ingame graphics options (probably for next patch).

In theory a lower value might give you worse performance, but better input responsiveness.
