singleplayer mission parameters (mission planning-phase)

Recommended Posts

I really would like to see mission parameters for singleplayer missions too!

  • player/playable
We need slots to be able to select a certain unit from a given team or to choose the faction of the player. Play the same mission from the perspective of the leader, the grunt or even the enemy. Yay!
^^ This information would be nice anyway at this point: select a sp-mission and you see directly as what role you will be able to play.

  • parameters/settings
Easy/native interface to trim a mission to the players needs and mood. Play the same mission at day or at night, in winter or summer, easy or really hard, whatever the mission designer can come up with. This could be very interessting for campaigns too: offer some dates/times on which to attack, after the previous mission maybe gave the player some hints on when the enemy is weak/strong, etc..

Sounds a lot like the multiplayer-lobby, right? Indeed, but it would still be nice to have this for sp too. Otherwise (sp-)mission-designers need to do this with custom dialogs, where a standard/native interface would be really the better solution.

(Backward) compatibility with missions without any defined paramters and only one player slot should be no problem either. The "sp-lobby" in this case would just show you which role you're gonna play and in addition, why not display the short mission description, a such things, so in the end we'd have a simulation of the preparation-/planing-phase of a mission (choose a suitable date and time for an attack, set needed weapons/strategy per parameters, and so on...).

Well, it can be achieved to 100% by playing missions that technically are multiplayer missions (i.e. started like a mulitplayer game) but designed for playing one player. That way you get all the controls you ask for, the player can choose his slots, and every single squad/vehicle can have their set of waypoints to make them work without player control.

And since it can be achieved to 100% through creating a multiplayer game I don't think we'll see a feature like it added for singleplayer anytime soon.
