Capturing towns on Dogs of War

I've started again with an old save game - BUT - how on earth do you capture towns?
I thought you just sat in the depot... but I've been sat right in the middle of the depot in Stary Sobor (the capture of which is set as my current task) and I've been here for ages on 4x speed, nothing is happening....
    Intel Core i7 3770 IVY Bridge, Quad Core (1155, 3.40GHZ, 8MB Cache)
    AMD HD7970 3GB Graphics Card
    16GB (4 x 4GB) Corsair Vengeance 1600MHz DDR3
    Asus P8Z77-V LX2
    Solid State Drive SATA III

It helps to capture the town's outposts as well. Are you sure that there are no enemy troops anywhere around the town? If it still doesn't 'capture' then I would switch to high command mode and order a squad to occupy the town, then you can move on to the next town with your own squad.

Thanks - could try that - but how do I go into high command mode as ctrl-space does nothing.
I don't really know how to "do" high command mode, the training mission for it is pretty crap and no instructions in the manual.

There are several faction versions of this mission, maybe you can't get high command in yours. Try voting yourself as commander and try again. And have a look at the official mission boards for this mission if you like.
Btw you wrote that you did start again with an old save game. Remember that you should always revert a mission when you've installed a new ArmA2 patch in the meantime.

you can only use High Commander if you decide to goto CDF and you also have to accept the offer from the CDF commander on being the commander for all CDF forces.

Oh, didn't know that. I've only played as CDF in Dogs of War. I assumed NAPA would give you the option of control of their forces if you took that route.

I play NAPA, and I got the option to high command.

I think the problem with capturing towns is that a town isn't captured before there's only one faction in the main base area. When I get to a base, and there are CDF troops there as well, I could stay there for hours, and nothing happens. As soon as I leave, the base gets the green color in the map, indicating CDF now controls it.

If both NAPA and CDF troops arrive almost at the same time, they will stay there for hours and days. I confirmed this theory right now, by killing all cdf in the town (probably bad for my statistics). And sure enough, the base turned blue on the map, indicating NAPA control.

weird when i played with Napa i didnt get the offer.
Possible it was becasue Prizrak wasnt dead.

Blue means CDF (BLEUFOR) control, green mean NAPA (GUERILLA) control.

OK, that explains it. That means that even if I joined NAPA in the previous mission (Badlands), I am now forced to work with CDF. Maybe I should have paid attention to the briefing in the beginning...

OK, then. I did kill the priest in Badlands, and I didn't report the weapons in Manhattan. Not sure what affects what, though.

But I find it strange that CDF and NAPA swarm the same towns sometimes, making it impossible to conquer them... They seem to be competitors...

yeah i have had the same problem when playing as CDF, sometimes me and my arrive at town and there is no one around except some Chedik's but even though i dealt with them it sometimes takes to long to capture a town and NAPA arrives and its then pointless to stay.

Wouldn't it be possible to have some sort of trigger?
like if i play with CDF and if units from my faction
enter the area near a towncenter in a twon
which NAPA also has on its tasklist
a trigger would activate and simply cancel the NAPA task.

    something like

"while PlayerFaction & Guerilla = allies
if playerfactionUnit= present -> task cancelled"
