    few questions

    hi all

I played the demo for this game when it came out and seemed quite good game though i found a lot of issues within it so put me off.

I been told game improved a lot sinse release and atm trying to decide if i should go for operation flashpointDR or this.

I got a few questions which would help.

    firstly.

my pc specs are e8400 3.0
    4870 512mb
    4gb ram
    vista 64 bit.

what sort of settings would i be able to play?

    Also.

In this game i noticed there a lot of "squinting" of the eyes due to the enemys being mostly out of sight and most of time dont even see them due to the ranges/game mechs.

Is it still fun, ie how do you even see the enemys, for example flashpoint has things like infra red ect/thermals,/ optics in the guns are very good so can see at far ranges, how does this game make up for the extreame ranges?

    secondly

In videos i have seen they seem to have a boxed in affect

    http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=baI0_vmyiQ0&hd=1

why is this? since so far i have yet to find on youtube any decent videos with good graphic settings of arma2 ONLINE gameplay, maybe someone can link some, as i looked in video thread but most of them modded videos and i pretty sure most of the time i would be playing normal arma2 online.

    lastly.

in videos i have seen it seems this game quite like project reality mod for BF2, is this game mostly camping around for ages doing nothin, as iin videos i have seen most of them have people sitting in one place or running someone for over 5+mins then action is pretty much limited.

is this really what game is?

I only ask this as i not a huge COD2 fanboy but in the end of day id like to see more than 2-3 enemys within a hour,

    cheers for any help

If your into arcade shooters then you should obviously go for Dragon Rising, if you want military simulator realism then there's nothing else than ArmA that handles that!

I would say a mix of low and medium.

Not sure what you mean, i can spot enemies on great distances(turning off post process effects increased FPS and removed the blur which could hinder view distance).

"Boxed in affect" got no idea what you are talking about.

On many servers the grass is turned off and view distance limited to increase FPS.

So absolutely not, but it all depends on which type of games you prefere and play. If your looking for action go play Domination or Evolution, if you want sneaky sneaky then privately hosted games often are the best!

In ArmA 2 when playing against AI it's hard to camp because AI will eventually spot you and then your in a world of sh!t

that a suprise when i played demo i had pretty much maxed out, i suprised about low since i got quite a high spec system. considering.

the screen you see in most videos has the sides cut down thus boxed in affect of the video, with high graphics settings you can view these videos in hd, thus have full screen like most videos.

i havnt seen many videos of good quality for arma2 for online play that bassically what i mean.

bassically, in games like for example flashpoint in videos i seen the scopes have realistic visuals thus if enemy at 100+mtrs then the scope will be able to give you good visals on the enemy ie can see body in the crosshare, in demo i found the scopes were a little weak realism wise ie they give very little zoomed in affects.

    hopefully that clears it up.

on the camp issue i clan to hear it isnt all about camping, are there any videos that show off arma2 online combat at its best? hard trying to find arma2 online combat it seems as mostly AI stuff

You could camp for 20 minutes, or you could run into a 100 enemy infantry rushing outof their APCs.

ArmA 2 is VERY CPU demanding.

Can't remember which settings your able to set in the demo, but there's more in retail.

Thats the videos aspect ratio. I play with AR on 16:10.

Dunno about those videos haven't watched many of them, but as i said many servers forces grass off to increase fps and that makes it looks a little dull.

(also with this game being so hard on your computer i would guess people are recording in low res to be able to play smoothly, dunno if thats the case though).

Was there any scopes in the demo besides ACOG if you wanna call that a scope?

There's quite a few sniper rifles in retail and they gives you good visuals on long distances.

Well again i dunno about the videos, not watching them myself.

Most servers a COOP, human players vs AI. Some don't like it other loves it, i love it specially in my own missions where randomness is a keyword. At times AI can appear dumb but at other times they flank you and before you know it they stand behind you and shoot you in the back! I've several times nearly pissed my pants

If I understand correctly, you're talking about high magnified scopes, e.g "sniper scopes". If so, yes, there are scopes like that in ArmA 2, they're usually on "snipers" .

If you're talking about FLIR, you'll probably need to script or download a mod for that if you want it to work in ArmA 2, I'm not sure though, havn't really messed around with the scopes much.

You can also turn down the difficulty, which will enable enemy tags which light up the enemies for you with big red circles.

I would also love better weapon feel, guns wiggling side to side, feeling like they are pounding your shoulder, i would love ragdoll physics, and I would really love soldiers screaming and shouting.

However, I would also like a mansion, a beautiful wife, and 10,000 Ferrari's. The simple matter of fact here is that I don't have enough money. The same rule applies to Bohemia

you could probably run with most things maxed; but your CPU will probably hold you back to ~30-40fps (at least mine does when oc'd to 3.2GHz). This is obviously just a rough estimate as each system seems to handle the game a little different

as for the scopes, there's also ACOG's and PSO-1 which only zoom in 4x and are mainly for short-to-medium ranges. The full blown sniper rifles do have adjustable scopes that go up to 10x IIRC

Sorry to be ants at the picnic, but the scopes are actually done right in ARMA as they have realistic amounts of zoom and some orintation points (the mildots on scopes vanila arma are not exactly real but still usefull if you learn how to use them) as opposed to DR scopes which have blurred milldots, random zoom and the main PLA sight has a red arrow all over it so you cant basically target anything

@PJ[CZ] did you notice a big difference in performance after switching to the 260 GTX from the 8800 GTS?
    Thanks in advance

With my specs below i'm running this game very smooth and u should get similar results if not better. Run fine on chernarus with plus 100 AI and vehicles in city battles.
I run best on xp but win7 is just a tad slower
