Buy the game?

Hi guys,
i was looking forward to Operation Flashpoint DR and alsways thougt: "Well i will by OFp: DR for sure, so i dont need Arma2."

But in the last few days, there where so many facts of Codemasters puplished, that i relly start thinking of bying Arma2 instead of OFP: DR.

But unfortunatelly im not very well informed about the actual gameing situation.
Well, Arma2 was full of bugs, thats all i heard, but this was with Version 1.0

And meanwhile, i think, many things have changed, and many people say, that playing the multiplayer is huge fun and its nearly bugfree.

So i would be looking forward if you can help me with the following questions:
(and its for me just about the mulitplayer, dont consider the singleplayer plz)

• Is the multiplayer nearly bugfree? Or: Aren't there any huge problems to play online?
• How many people can play against each other on one server? (OfpDr: only 32 players lol)
• Are there any field/map restrictions? Can i move around and around the whole Island? (in Ofp: DR a limitation to 2x2 km² is planned lol)
• Which multiplayermods are available?
• How much action is one multiplayer game? Does it take over half an hour to finde someone and then you get shoot by a sniper? And when this happens, where will you be reborn, or will you stay killed?
• How much is Arma2 about tactics? Is it important to plan the mission, with one leader and oder Squad-leaders? Or is it just like "lets run to the marked area and the shoot everything"?
• Can i join with a german key (yupp im german ) any foreign server?

The multiplayer seems to be fairly bug free. I dont think there are major bugs that will prevent you from playing in the current patch (1.04). Other may disagree, but there really aren't any bugs right now that make it unplayable.

As far as player number sare concerned, it is dependant on server and mission file. I've seen some for 128 players. I also rarely see more than 30 players on any public servers, but clan servers can be higher.

No map/field restrictions. you can even walk off map and still have terrain, just no trees or buildings. The map is about 20km^2.

Many different player modes. CTI, Warfare, DM, etc...

As far as action goes, that is really dependant on the mission you are playing. Some missions require team mates to revive you if hit, others, you need to wait for finish of misison, others are respawn. Depends entirely on misison maker.

Tactics will improve the game for you, but you ca still run and kill so to speak. Most public servers have these kinds of missions, but it is better to work within a team, more immersive etc...

Don't know about the foreign server side of things, but i do not know of any restrictions.

Hope this helps, but may be a bit too fanboy. I've been playing since ARMA 1and like the game a lot.

2. The biggest server I've seen had 100 people

4. The ones I know of are Evolution, Domination, Warfare, Berzerk, Advance and Secure. The first three are coop (warfare can be coop or PvP) and the last two are PvP

5. There is a lot of action especially in the team vs. team games. Death depends on the server, sometimes you wait a few seconds to respawn, sometimes it's permanent, sometimes people on your team can revive you.

6. In my experience the only time people use tactics are on the realism servers where someone takes command and gives orders on the microphone. Otherwise it's every man for himself.

no it cant:the mp isnt bug-free(crashes,black screen....)but it depends to your luck....hw even with those bugs it depends to how often they hit you.but,in all honesty,i suggest you to buy the game and dont miss the amazing experience it can offers

Mostly, the game in multiplayermode is bug free. but from time to time there are CTD's or connection problems. But overall Im really happy with Arma2 and can only say: buy it! There is a huge fun waiting for you if you find a server, which doesn't play only domination or evolution.

About OFP-DR, I thought the same:
Meanwhile with all these restrictions in mp mode, Arma2 is the better choice.
(Of course, this is only my opinion. I fully respect if other people think different)

  Playing on local (low-ping) servers I haven't had any problems. I had some weird stuff happen when I tried to play with 800 ping though

  No. You can go anywhere.

  In DM-type games, you're constantly killing and being killed
  In a really large coop game, you might spend 10 minutes manoeuvring without seeing an enemy.
  In good team vs team games I usually don't go more than a few minutes without some action.
  
  There's usually a base or a vehicle that act as a respawn-point. Even in large-coops you can usually get back to the fighting very quickly after dying.

  Depends - on many public servers people just run to the marked area and shoot stuff But if the other team is using tactics, guess who will win...
  In team games and small coops you definitely need squad tactics.
  
  I have a few friends that also play this game, and it is so much more fun (and more effective!) to work together as a squad rather than "every man for himself"!

A2 of course, OFP DR will probably not have addons community (if it have addons at all)

in OFP DR you won't play soldiers of your country, in Arma you can
there is BW mod since OFP, guys who make German addons
there are alot of people who make addons for this game

so don't think about vanila game, Arma strongest point is addon content (freeware)
you can play all and have all in this game
so definitely take A2 and forget about OFP DR

Not only are there bugs in the game, but on top of that you get bugs in the missions since they are all user made which means most of them aren't 100% polished.

If you don't want the kind of gameplay Arma 2 offers badly enough to play it regardless of the occasional bugs, then you're probably better off playing OFP2, MW2, BF2 etc, but you'll be missing out on a unique and awesome experience that those games will never give you.
