Well it's an old Computer so yeah it's slow..
CPU: Core 2 Duo 2.33 GHz
    Video mem: 1GB

Okay, before i change my OS to Win 7, (XP) ArmA 2 runs faster on High setting.
Now i set everything to medium, lower the view distance, vid mem High (in Very high i'm getting a lot of stutters instead)
and now i got a pretty smooth preformance, of around 20 - 28 sometimes 30 +. so thanks for your help everyone

But now after the v1.60 patch came out, somehow it runs much slower and missions which I could previously play fine with a bit low FPS are now in single digit unplayable FPS then.

I don't know, maybe I goofed up something in my win7 64bit that causes it, but I start to think somewhere in v1.60 patch cycle enough was changed on the code to make the engine more CPU demanding...

I can run small missions with only little or perhaps "normal" amount of AI just fine and Takistan or other user made light terrains help of course. Chernarus and 100+ AI is too much for this hardware.
I know its complicated, but you won't regret it: run the game on XP (64 bit if you can). I'm not generalizing (though perhaps I should) but for older hardware like yours it's an impressive improvement. Dual boot is your friend. There's something with the code that runs faster in XP.

    Here's my current rig

AMD FX 4100 Rurboclocked to 3.8 GHz
    ASUS M5A97 EVO Mobo
    AMD ASUS 5670 1GB
    8GB Mushkin memory

Playing online with mods ( ACE, ACRE, Islands, sounds, guns, etc.) in missions like Domination or MSO usually results in around 20-25 frames per second for me. Is this normal for what I'm packing or is there something going on? Thanks in advance

Good advice, except XP 64-bit sucks in a lot of ways.
    Core i7 920 @ 3.995 GHz, HT off
    12 GB OCZ DDR3-1600
    GTX 680
    2x Intel X25-M 80 GB SSD
    Windows 7 Pro x64

    ArmA2/OA Settings:
    1920x1080 w/ View Distance at ~3600
    Video Memory at Default
MSAA Very High, AToC=0, SMAA Ultra
    Post Processing at Very Low
All other settings at Very High

Probably, but it's ideal for Arrowhead.

    Hardware trouble with game

I just bought my computer about a year ago and just recently downloaded Arma 2 from steam. Im trying to play the DayZ mod and when I launch the game it loads up fine, but in game it runs so slow and choppy. I even put it at the lowest setting. I was just wondering if my CPU is suppose to handle it or if I can upgrade it somehow. My specs are

    Windows 7
    Intel Core i5-2300 CPU@2.80 GHz
    Installed physical memory 6.00 GB
    Available memory 4.17 GB
    nvidia GeForce 405

I downloaded updates for my graphics card and that hasnt seem to have done anything. Any help or advice would be greatly appreciated. Thank you

    geforce 405:

just looking at the pic you can see this thing is below system requirements. A 100,- eu gpu is enough to run all games (albeit at modest settings) but still oems put piece-oh-crap cards in to save 50,-
    Arma 3 is a twitchshooter
    Needs more rainbow six 1-3

What kind of graphics card could I buy that would be an upgrade and still work with my set up?

As long as you have an available PCI-e x16/x8 slot, you can get pretty much anything your PSU can handle.

this always happens with my old computer (and my friends).
