    Multiplayer lockup - GTX295/Quad Core i7

I know there have been several posts about this, but figured I would add in the list. Specs are below:

    • EVGA 141-BL-E757-TR ATX X58 SLI LE Intel Motherboard
    • Intel Core i7-950 3.06GHz LGA 1366 130W Quad-Core Processor
    • OCZ Gold 6GB (3 x 2GB) 240-Pin DDR3 SDRAM DDR3 1600 (PC3 12800) Low Voltage Desktop Memory Model OCZ3G1600LV6GK
    • BFGTech Nvidia GTX 295
    • On-board RealTek 7.1 Audio
    • Vista 64Bit

Singleplayer works fine. Every time it connects to a multiplayer game (especially ones hosted on non-dedicated servers) the game freezes and must force a reboot. Tried command line (-maxmem, -winxp), tried all sorts of in game graphic settings, tried different graphics driver versions. Tried turning off all other programs running (antivirus, etc).

Ran out of options, very VERY pissed off. Any ideas?

Hi mate, is your system OC'ed?

What voltages are you RAM/CPU etc set to?

Have you unblocked the ports properly in vista for this game?

    Have you ran virus scan?

Weird problem seeing as you have SP working... I always had issues with SP and seldom any issues in MP. One thing I can say tho is that the GPU works "harder" in MP as the CPU bottleneck is dimminished. So perhaps try to run with a fan profile that speeds it up say 75% and see if it helps?

Also I presume all your other games run sweet? Reason I ask is that you didnt mention your PSU?

I have similar system, and all my issues were performance related rather then crash/freeze. I know some of my suggestions are "out there" but its a process of elimination.

    Multiplayer Problems

    To answer your questions:

Have you unblocked the ports properly in vista for this game? Haven't really fiddled with ports much. Disabled Anti-Virus, Diabled Firewall

Have you ran virus scan? No, actually disabled it - this is a brand new machine we built, with ONLY Arma 2 and the Oper System on it

Can't imagine overheating is an issue, as this occurs right at startup of machine for first time of the day as well as after it's run for a while. Also, not overclocked at all.

Also I presume all your other games run sweet? Reason I ask is that you didnt mention your PSU? Only other game we've tried is Dawn of War 2, and it works perfecly

    Thanks Bud

    Thought up a new theory:

Seems we can connect to multiplayer servers that are dedicated, however when my friends host I cannot connect (crashes at recieving data).

We are thinking that possibly it is because they (the host) has installed addon units? They are not in any of the missions we are trying to run, but perhaps it is still screwing it up. We will delete them from the server machine and try again tonight - keep you all posted.

OK, it wasnt the "addons". Still crashed in multiplayer. Any ideas?? This time it was switching to the map that crashed it.

The i7/gtx 295 bug is killing me too. Cranked my fan speed to 85%, background processes all off except the necessities, tried in single-gpu mode, -maxmem=2047 and -winxp prompts, drivers 190.38, nvidia SLI patch, nHancer, all for nothing. It let me play longer but still CTD/freeze.

Will try to modify my cfg file localVRAM option to half of my GPU.

Has anyone turned off their processor hyperthreading? Any luck?

Same specs as first post, even Mobo. Just as frustrated. C'mon 1.04 patch.

I am having the same problems

    My system specs..

    http://forums.bistudio.com/showthrea...13#post1390213

I get the same crashes in both XP and Win7

Arma2 in 1.02 ran much better with hyperthreading off.

    I hope these help..

I tried adjusting my LocalVRAM value in the cfg:
    Deleted the cfg file
Set the in-game video memory to Default
Changed the LocalVRAM to 939524096 (half of my gtx 295)
    Changed the cfg to read-only

I challenged it with helo flyovers of the two largest cities in the editor, 3rd and 1st person, zooming in and out, no crash. Then made a helo battle with 30 helos and 15 riflemen. No crash! Then I started "Razor Two" and hopped in a HMMV and drove north. "Arma2.exe has stopped working" CTD.

I was able to play for the longest stretch yet, about 1 hour without error.

Can I blame Vista64? The gtx 295? The i7 950? The lack of patch 1.04? I'll be patient cause this game rules. Anything else work for anyone? I've tried everything on this thread and many others. Do I really have to drop the gfx settings to 'low' to let me play this game?

    ..........................

Not that dropping them to 'low' has fixed anything. It doesn't seem to matter what the graphics settings in-game are, except for video memory - default. Still CTD or freezes in MP and SP. MP faster. Thoughts beyond my past efforts?

core i7 and nvidia 275 285 295 all have this error... its a well known bug that the game crash....
Currently im testing the cd version of the game it seem a little more stable than the download version ( dont know why ) but it was the same problem with arma1 since some files named OPENAL were missing in the download version and not in the cd version.

  9. #9
arma 2 doesn't use OPENAL, does it? I can be wrong, happens often actually. Have you had any luck with the -openal command script?

Are you still CTD with the CD version? Or have non-Steam users had this issue too...

ARMA2 does not use OpenAL no. There is a sticky in troubleshooting about SOUND and ARMA2.

    Check it out.
