Thread: ground vehicles are almost impossible to control.

ground vehicles are almost impossible to control.

can you bring back the way mouse steer worked in arma1? Now, I lowered my mouse sensitivity in game to make aiming weapons easier, but now when I drive a tank, hummer, etc. I have almost no control and a huge delay from mouse inputs. Using keys makes the vehicle veer left and right out of control. Just a quick tap to the left arrow key and I've change direction 90*. Please fix!

I can't take credit for this, but I can't find the original post. Here is one of the best single tips ever:

Go into control options, filter for vehicle controls
Unbind 'car more left' and 'car more right' from the A & D keys
Bind 'car left' and 'car right' to A & D

This mimics the original OFP control. Looks like the problem is nothing more than silly default controls.

"ground vehicles are almost impossible to control...." ... after i changed the settings that control how easy they are to drive.

^^ Should add that to your topic. Personally I use the default mouse settings to steer slight bits and A & D for sharper turns. Works well for me, just have to be smooth and slow about it.

The key thing to remember is you don't have constantly be moving forward (pressing 'W'). While driving change your speeds up, slow down into corners and accelerate out of them. Use 'Q' to drive slower downhills, use 'E' to drive faster on long straight roads or while climbing a hill (it's stupid that a HMMWV should be stopped dead in it's tracs on a 30 degree slope upwards).

Though, since you have changed your mouse sensitivity you might have to resort to what ACF said, you'll just lose the ability for sharp turns the default A & D give you.

Like other things in the ARMA series it takes some practise. Kylania plays like me as well. Use mouse (practise first!) for smaller steering and keyboard buttons when in need of sharp turns.

I noticed pressing the keyb buttons to steer PLUS use the mouse left or right really kick in real hard turns. Super nice.

I haven't tried it, but you could bind 'car more left' and 'car more right' to 2xA and 2xD.

I use the default mouse settings too and after a bit of practice it gets much easier. You do tend to over correct when straightening up though so you weave around like you've had several too many.

I like the steering, way better than tht auto center of Arma1

That's a cute idea but I don't think you can hold 2xA so it would just be an instant and wouldn't help.

I like to drive the way mentioned above, but I had to turn down the sensitivity because I couldn't aim the darn gun straight!
Thanks for the bind trick, might try binding the stick, too.

AHA! Bind mouse left and mouse right to left and right, in stead of more left and right! I'm in business now!!!!!
