How to create a "reactive patrol"

I tried to create some patrols with movement waypoints, but they don't react to sounds (for an example, when they are under attack).
Is it possible to obtain a "more reactive" patrol, using the movement waypoints (plus everything else necessary)?
    Thanks.

    Why not just use this:

It's really easy to implement and there's various ways to tweak it so the patrols react in different ways.

A simple SIDE A (attackers) detected by SIDE B (patrol) "switch" trigger, syncronized to the patrol's cycle waypoint (or whatever their last waypoint is if it doesn't cycle), and a new waypoint after that waypoint will get them to "break" patrol when enemies are detected in the area.

Thanks for all your suggestions. I'll do some tests.
