Dealbreakers - pursuade me to buy this game...

This motion blur only happens when I am walking on the ground and turning, when I am flying I have flawless fps..

I have quad core, 4gb, 8800gt oc, xp

Playing the Demo, I was about to pre-order, but Securom and a few things broke the deal for me...

    Deal breakers for me!
    1) Motion blur, only happens on the ground

    2) I cant walk normally while holding the gun, there is only fast forward and really fast forward, or EXTREMELY SLOW forward...... I like OFP where you can walk slow, walk faster while holding gun, and sprint with gun down

    3) Steering in vehicles sucks with the mouse - make it like ofp where you look where you are going instead of having to hold alt!

    4) Moving the mouse has minor delay in land vehicles, and while walking - this is the only game that has this delay and I run crysis, farcry2 and others at 1920x1080 full settings with no frame drop, no lag - smooth is key guys!!!

    5) Air vehicle controls are extremely poor, you can no longer rotate the helicopter left/right with the pedal keys!

    6) No way to rebind the ALT key to something else?

    7) No way to invert the mouse ONLY on aircraft

    Adding to the list...

    8) Radio sounds like SHIT, and it has the same bug that existed in OFP and Arma code where you can click a lot for fire-cease fire and it will keep repeating until ALL ARE DONE... meaning radio queues up and keeps annoying you until all actions are done... fix this please, especially if you are using such an annoying radio technology...

    9) When laying on a field, yes grass can be high in real life, but in this game you cant move it, or look over the grass - you are essentially blind while laying in grass - but the super ai can see you...! Why not try making it semi transparent to simulate one eye looking around, and one eye looking at the grass, this way you can see the enemies in your line of sight...

    10) Another one.. Very high settings on 1920x1080 benchmark VS 900x something on VERY LOW.. Only gives an additional 2 frames per second...

    ------------------------------------------------------------------------------

I was going to buy this game, but as said the above broke the deal for me... I think I will stick with Operation Flashpoint and Operation Flashpoint 2 when it comes out - they have controls etc down to an art while Armed Assault 2 just.... has something, and its not good..

    1) Motion blur, only happens on the ground

I can't confirm this. With postprocessing on low I also get motion blur in air vehicles, as long as the turn is sharp enough. Postprocessing on disabled turns off motion blur completely, including on the ground.

    2) I cant walk normally while holding the gun, there is only fast forward and really fast forward, or EXTREMELY SLOW forward...... I like OFP where you can walk slow, walk faster while holding gun, and sprint with gun down

Take it or leave it. Probably won't change, except perhaps in a mod like ACE2.

    3) Steering in vehicles sucks with the mouse - make it like ofp where you look where you are going instead of having to hold alt!

This can be configured to behave like OFP. It's in the control options.

    4) Moving the mouse has minor delay in land vehicles, and while walking - this is the only game that has this delay and I run crysis, farcry2 and others at 1920x1080 full settings with no frame drop, no lag - smooth is key guys!!!

Forcing VSync to off in your graphics control panel can remedy this.

    5) Air vehicle controls are extremely poor, you can no longer rotate the helicopter left/right with the pedal keys!

Yes you can. X and C are the default I believe.

    6) No way to rebind the ALT key to something else?

Yup, there is. I set it to "O", which I have mapped on my mouse (scrollwheel tilt right). Always worked fine.

    7) No way to invert the mouse ONLY on aircraft

    True.

Also true. It's unfortunate, but hopefully they will fix it.

You can flatten grass by crawling of rolling over it. Works fine for everyone else.

    10) Another one.. Very high settings on 1920x1080 benchmark VS 900x something on VERY LOW.. Only gives an additional 2 frames per second...

Do you perhaps have fillrate on 200%?

I know about X and C buttons, but they dont work when you are going faster :-( is what I meant to say...

I tried post processing to off, but the blur is still there, not as much but the game looks a lot worse with it off :-(

    1) Motion blur, only happens on the ground

    Google "Keygety's no blur"

    2) I cant walk normally while holding the gun, there is only fast forward and really fast forward, or EXTREMELY SLOW forward...... I like OFP where you can walk slow, walk faster while holding gun, and sprint with gun down

Not sure what you mean, but with iron sights it's really slow (as it should be, otherwise you'll lose aim), faster with iron sites down, double tap to sprint with gun down. It's been a couple of years since I played OFP but it seemed the same to me.

    3) Steering in vehicles sucks with the mouse - make it like ofp where you look where you are going instead of having to hold alt!

Yeah, can't really argue this one.

    4) Moving the mouse has minor delay in land vehicles, and while walking - this is the only game that has this delay and I run crysis, farcry2 and others at 1920x1080 full settings with no frame drop, no lag - smooth is key guys!!!

I've seen this issue with some other people, never noticed it myself, but I think it has to do with mouse DPI (and yes, there's an invisible mouse smoothing too), but I had a similarish thing where my mouse felt very sluggish. I raised the mouse DPI and lowered the ingame sensitivity and it runs like a dream now.

    5) Air vehicle controls are extremely poor, you can no longer rotate the helicopter left/right with the pedal keys!

Think that was mentioned but yeah, X and C, it's not the most sensitive but it's good as long as you don't expect to throw a full 180 fast.

    6) No way to rebind the ALT key to something else?

Never tried, but where there's a will

    7) No way to invert the mouse ONLY on aircraft

    Never tried again sorry.

I don't know why people complain so much, I love it, kinda a OFP reminder for me. The alternate being to manually record a command for the 100,000 odd possibilities of radio commands in game.

You can actually move around to lower the grass around your immediate area (not that that helps a lot), or you can lower the terrain detail to make grass vanish (not a very good fix as it looks like OFP) Semi-transparent would be good, but very hard on the graphics engine.

EDIT : Forgot to mention that another trick, while not too reality like, is to goto 3rd person and hold breath, as a bonus you can go straight to zoom/iron sights from 3rd person.

As for the AI. Technically the AI can't see through grass (heavily tested), that said, the moment you make a noise they know your general position and will light it up, and the more noise you make the faster they hone in on you.

    10) Another one.. Very high settings on 1920x1080 benchmark VS 900x something on VERY LOW.. Only gives an additional 2 frames per second...

Something funky going on there with your setup, noticed someone else mention that problem in the demo thread. With mine I got from 60fps at 900 to 28 fps at 1920, so not sure there.

From what I've seen, using the 8800gt/9800gt on arma struggles when going over 1280, then again, that core was never great for handling high resolutions as oppose to the competition.

Decent FPS in A2 (and most newer games if we are being honest) @ 1900 x 1080/1200 is not a realistic expectation on an 8800GT. I'm not trying to be a d!ck but some people here have to start realising this isn't a "technical problem" or a "bug", it is just a limitation of almost 3 year old hardware.

    Cheers,

    Eth

    Heh, yarr, i agree completely.

For low resolutions the 9800/8800 is fine, but it's an old core now and can't handle what it used to... pity, I loved it for so long.

Doesn't the 8800 have trouble with modern/advanced shaders? Even peeps with 8800x2 were having trouble, they upgraded to a GTX and voila, issue solved. Those are old cards, man.
