Arma 2 - Female Characters?

Recommended Posts

I don't want female soldiers in ArmA. First of all I would feel uncomfortable shooting women and second it'd introduce a whole new undesireable gameplay dynamic in MP.

I play reglarily on a server that has a girl playing who has a girl character, it doesn't bother me.

Most of the time you probably wouldn't even know it's a woman you're shooting because you're either too far away to tell, or you're in CQB and you shoot before you have time to look.:)

It still beats staring at a big ass Marine when you're crawling in the dirt or flying in a chopper! :P

this :( .

i realize that if you're a girl playing this game, you might want to play a female character. but then again, men seem to have no problem playing as Lara Croft, so... ;)

I lol'd. :D

It's a game silly!

And it just feels more.. immersive if you can play a character of your own gender. It's not like it bothers me that much to play a male model, but you'll just identify less with your character and feel less in the thick of it.

It's like in Rainbow Six Vegas 2 you could play the campaign as a female character, and it just became much more immersive for me. Suddenly I felt like the butch chick in the combat suit fighting the terrorists. It's what makes the difference for me between having the feeling you're playing a game, or actually being sucked into it.

It's a personal-immersion thing. =)

But of course others dislike it, so I'll just have to respect that, just like BIS's decision not to incorporate female soldiers in the game.

Cant believe some of the answers in this thread..

I have a few female friends that like to play games, one of them a hardcore gamer. Why wouldnt they be able to have an avatar that resembles them? When we play doom3 the girl always take the woman avatar (ofcourse).

I have no problems shooting woman avatars, its an enemy. Then again as I am from the nordic countries / Finland Im used to have women around me in all jobs and also from my year in the military. Yes, Finland uses woman next to men also in combat units.

I wouldnt mind seeing a few female soldier characters in arma2. If not as US or RU there are more factions.. I know one of my friends would be overjoyed!

Vampire1994, welcome to the forum!

Guess you all would moan if females wont look and move like they do. Or do you like to see Marian Quandt Aliens Episode II? :D

Developers would need some extra time to get the models in shape and all the animations perfectly done...

I think in reality I would not have any hesitation in shooting them if they firing at me. But it could spark up a whole realism vs morality discussion - BIS aim to simulate reality, and women are part of that reality, ergo should be in the game (it includes wildlife, so why not women in military/combat roles ?). I have seen a thread before on the addition of children, which I personally have no issue with as they are part of most modern battlefields and so part of a soldiers' reality. But I can imagine the field day the press would have after seeing child suicide bombers or school massacres in the game, so do not expect their inclusion.

I suspect (and hope) there are already many female OFP/ArmaX gamers and if female soldier characters would bring in more that can only be goodness for both the community and BIS funds. I personally often take a medic or engineer role, and plenty of people act as pilots or drivers for much of their time in the game (probably because female players dominate us in combat :D).

Just my viewpoint.

10 days and counting.

Well, you can already kill female civillians, so I don't see why having female soldiers should be the thing to spark a morality-debate...

There were female soldiers modded into Operation Flashpoint and into ArmA 1, so no doubt someone will mod them into ArmA 2 at some point.

its not sexist, most gamers are male, especially action games, and making female animations and modeling takes to long and bis doesnt have enough time for it, im sure that modders will make something and actually most games have no playable female characters

Posts like this doesnt really encourage females to join the community either.

Game makers are becoming more aware that females enjoys games to and games specificaly made for girls/women are increasing.

There are a lot of games that has playable female characters, Tombraider may be the biggest but there are plenty more.

@Vampire1994, velcome :)

I still think it comes down to realism. For me anyway. It all depends if the marines would have female soldiers. As for the factions ... why not? I have to say though, it would be nice to have the option to choose a female character in the character selection, instead of ArmA1 where is was just "here's a female skin with a male voice ... lol", it'd do a lot for it. But yeah, I'd prefer if it was kept realistic, I was all for female soldiers only a year ago, as well as character customisation, but I think it keeping with the realistic them BIS are trying to achieve it wouldn't really work. It's like this, in Vegas 2 (yeah, I went there ... :( ) I ended up playing as a "gangsta" despite being a rather serious player, imo anyway. It certainly didn't do anything for the atmosphere, in fact, me and a friend ended up doing the campaign as "gangstas", sometimes I think choice is a bad thing ... like being able to choose pink/green/blue/red camoflague all in one and wear a boonie hat/retro glasses ... that was bad! But I'm rambling now. Actually, I suppose it would be OK ...

... yeah, I have no clue what I think btw =D OK, LJF out ...

Well to best of my knowledge the U.S. allow women to be MPs?

So as MP's are used to provide convoy escorts, manning checkpoints, base security etc, they are all situations just begging for an ambush so I am all for some female soldier models.

Now, why would you have problem shooting women? That's just stupid. It's not like they're anymore human than men are.

Now, that's different. Children are mentally as well as physically defenceless. I don't think the women of the world need you to label them as weak and defenceless. I thought that kind of thinking belonged on the 19th century. Apparently I was wrong.

jesus, don't put words in my mouth. :j: you said 'human', not 'weak' or 'defenceless'.

and frankly, if you wouldn't have the least problem shooting a woman, you've gotta be one cold ***.

There's a difference between a civilian woman cowering in a corner and a woman in uniform aiming a gun at you. Wouldn't you agree?

Of course I would have a problem shooting a woman. I'm not a psychopath. But I'd have just as hard a time to shoot a woman as I would've had if I shot a man. Why should my sympathy differ just because one of them have a penis and the other don't?

a difference, yes. but that doesn't make the thought of it any easier to bear. i'm glad i don't have to do it in a game like ArmA 2.

this would be the kind of realism that i can gladly do without. apparently BIS think the same way.

My thoughts exactly.

Apparently they didn't when they made OFP: Resistance...

The opinions on this topic seem to be very diverse. :)

I personally draw the line differently, i.e. not between men and women but between combatant and non-combatant. If it has a weapon and intends to shoot at me, I have no qualms about shooting back, be it man, woman or otherwise. (Of course this is speaking within the context of a game. In reality I don't think I could ever shoot at someone. Good thing I don't have to serve time in the military. ;))

Of course a realistically depicted avatar within a game can still evoke an emotional response, so shooting at a female combatant would still be more "difficult" than shooting at a male, but I would not see a problem with it on the whole.
