I checked in the studio and we have nearly identical setup. The same OS/RAM/GPU, CPU is quad core as well but Intel.

We use there ATI Catlyst identified as
    Driver Packaging Version 8.62-090507a-080714E-ATI

and the game runs quite well over there without any additional tweaks.

If you run the same graphics drivers as we do, than I am afraid it's getting a bit clueless The drivers version could be identified in ATI Catalyst Panel, Information, Graphics Software tab

The other "random" thing you may try is to run with -winxp parameter, this way the game will not use Vista's rendering pipeline based on D3D9Ex but normal D3D9 as found in Windows XP - but anyway, we are not using any such command line on this nearly identical PC we use for testing so I have currently no clue what could be causing your problems.

    - (temps never higher than 55°Celsius)
    - (on Windows Vista 64). CPU/GPU not overclocked, fresh BIOS (may 2009)update.

Sometimes there are errors during the campaign, the game often crashes when they appear. Sometimes I get this error (crash to desktop): http://img20.imageshack.us/img20/6549/aaatuo.jpg

Any1 any idea? Iam really pissed off

Thanks for help, but downgrading to 182.50 did NOT help. Still the same f****** error.

I´ll reinstall windows tomorrow and pray for a wonder

The thing i wonder about is that its only the first campaign mission that crashes that frequently, other stuff runs quite good, or atleast it takes a while to crash.
May it have something to do with Night, NV googles or something that is unique in this mission?

I now installed the SP2 for Vista64bit and tried some lower graphic settings. Now Iam able to play the campaign without any crashes (30+ minutes right now). I have no idea what may have caused the crashes as every other of my games runs fine. Maybe Im able to figure out what was the exact problem in the next days. Thanks for your help maruk and all the others! If a problem occurs again Ill report it here.

    Hello,

I have the same probs here :-(
After some minutes of playing (Whether in the campaign or do some attempts with the editor),
    ArmAII CTD without any message.

    (ArmAII German release version)

I've noticed that shortly before my harddrive works very hard.
I have try different settings in the graphics options, but without any success.

    My system:

    Win XP SP2
    Intel E6600@2.4Ghz
    Asus P5N-E
    Asus ENGTX280 - 1GB VRAM - 185.81
    SB Audigy2 ZS
    2 GB RAM

My Settings inGame at the moment:

All settings on "HIGHT" (not very hight)
    VD = 1600 m (standard)
    Fillrate = 100%

Until now I have started 5 times the first mission in the Campa
and every time I had these crash - after 5-10 min. in game.

Sorry, but I'm a little bit frustated

    Silola

Hint: Still in Mission 1, when I open the map [M] I can't move and zoom the map, only on the edges.
I think the prob is an invisible (big) dialog or control element.

    Exclamation same Problem:(

hey there, everyone...i´m new to BI-Forums so please bare with me

i got a little big problem here, after buying and installing ArmA2
on my system with the following specs:

    Intel Core2 Duo CPU
    E8400 @ 3.00 GHz
    3.00 GHz, 3,00GB RAM

MSI ATI Radeon HD 3870 X2 OC
    Gigabyte S-Series Motherboard

    System: WindowsXP

i wanted to start it up and it did let me...but it didn´t let me into the "menu-screen" at first and crashed back to desktop...so i reinstalled it, updated my g-card driver and got into the first screen after adding -nosplash -maxmem=512 to the properties of the .exe-link on the desktop!

i restarted my system then, and got to where i can adjust the video settings and set everything to normal, cause i thought the problem might be caused by to high settings.....but that doesn´t seem to be the cause, while it keeps crashing back to desktop, even with lower settings....

so i don´t know what do check next or to do now?

Plus, when i unpacked the game from it´s carton and installed it, i entered the CD-Key and got told: Wrong CD Key!

the option was to click "OK" or to click on "accept" in the installer window again, and it started to install the actual game, even with the error in the backround!! could that have something to do, with me crashing?

why does it come up anyways...and why can i still install it....?

i really was looking forward to try out my game tonight and now nothing but trouble...

if anybody has a suggestion, i would be thankful to hear it!

    greetings
    Rabbit

Not sure it may be related to crashing but to start with you really better enter correctly your CD key during install.

well, someone else wrote something about the prints not being very clear...so i might have mistaken a 2 for a Z or vice versa...i´ll give that a shot
