Project 85 release thread

This is a release thread of Project 85 MOD. Starting from now, every update and fixes info will be added here.

Project'85 is a mod, which developement begun in second half of 2007, and after many internal changes took it's current form. It concetrates on a fictional conflict, which could occur in the 80s in Central Europe. The mod puts heavy emphasis on realism.

The mod features following sides:

- Poland (soldiers loyal to the Warsaw Pact, and fighting independently),

- USSR: Many units from the 80s,

- Germany both DDR (GDR) and BRD (FRD),

- Americans main NATO force, expeditional Marine units are also included,

- British paratroopers deployed in Central Europe in case of a military conflict,

- Guerillas armed with wide range of weaponry, from those captured from military warehouses, to weapons aquired from western supply drops

- Civilians

- Bonus units, which are exceeding the mods theme, and presenting guns from weapon addon ie Russian army from year 2000.

Most sides have their own vehicles, characteristic to each army.

Mod offers huge ammount of weapons, not only from the 80s, but also modern ones, which allows many addons to work with the mod.

comparision of little reworked model of AH1 with BIS AH1

BIS SuperCobra 2 engines, Cobra for 1985 1 engine

front sight will be changed, texture will be green without markings "Marines"

i know model is far from perfect and temporary, but better than SuperCobra reskin

i know that air intake should be changed

Much more obvious is the 4 blade rotor which should be turned into a 2 blade rotor. I believe you can use the blades and head from a UH-1 you might have :)

Just a typo i've noticed: - Germany both DDR (GDR) and BRD (FRD)

FRD should be FRG for "Federal Republic of Germany". Don't know if its just a mistake in the post or it goes through your whole mod. :)

Its going to be fun reproducing the battles from Red Storm Rising. I hope you're working on some maps too :)

Why you wanna fix something that isn`t broken ;)

DDR and FRD are good ...GDR and FRG are wrong :bounce3:

Germania was a ancient part of the world and land of the German Race.

But Deutschland is were the Deutschers live today and back in 1985 :p

So the D stands for Deutschland and not Germania :D

As a german i can tell you : BRD (Bundesrepublik Deutschland) and FRG (Federal Republic of Germany) are West-Germany before 1990 and the united Germany today.

DDR (Deutsche Demokratische Republik) and GDR (German Democratic Republic) are the eastern part before 1990.

Btw : In Germany live "Deutsche" not "Deutschers"

Thanks for releasing Project85. Didnt test all of the units and its possible that you find other major issues to fix them first.

- get an error msg 'bin\config... p85_Truck5tReammo_xx_M72_magazine"

- there is an annoying shadow flickering flying with Su-25

- low AI rate of fire with M2A2 and Mi17

- commanders periscopes should be with zoom and able to move up+down

- some vehicles have different driver and co-driver places (M113 driver seat and BRDM co-driver seat)

- M60A3 AI commander is shooting with machinegun at armored vehicles

- missing national signs on some vehicles

Small question:

Why do all the RPG7s use different magazines?

It seems wierd that the ammo from an RPG is incompatible with the same weapon with a telescopic sight on it, or a slightly shorter one.

M113A3 and BRDM-2 are BIS models, not touched, not reconiged, just using P85 crew

- M60A3 AI commander is shooting with machinegun at armored vehicles

like Stinger soldier fires to APC, like AI fires HEAT to infantry like... all AI mistakes of engine of this game

engine limitations with "modelspecial" issue

otherwise you would have the same model after loading launcher, another engine limitation

like annoying bug in engine, that machinegun on APC/IFV make more fire/flash than canon :/

it is stupid that 25/30mm cannon is not noticeable when fires at nigh, super canon, flashless ;)

look at BIS BMP3 how it fires in night, compare 30mm cannon with PKT

Arma 1 has many engine limitation and bugs

thats why in mods many think look like they are

i spent some days trying to do different muzzle flashes on one turret - for cannon and for machinegun - i failed

now i think should i make all BMP2, LAV, M2 IFV like BIS made Shilka ?

cause only one muzzle flash/fire glow can work on one turret (selectionfireanim="zasleh", memorypointgun="kulas", "usti hlavne" ... etc)

the same goes to RPG, if i want have 4 different RPG (V, V+PGO, D, D+PGO and 4 types of rockets, i had to do 16 magazines) because of "modelspecial" issue in config

you may not know but there is another weird engine limitation - only one type of rockets per plane

you cannot make MiG with mixed R60, R27, R29... on pylons

I found some bugs like sounds, light and view

Truck has no horn and engine sounds and the windows make alot dissapear like vehicles, fire/smoke.

looking closer with camview also trees and houses dissapear.

That LAV pops up its lights after skipping some hours into the night while it is destroyed.

Do all vehicles pop up the lights without driver in seat? the truck had no driver only a gunner and still its lights went on.

anyway it`s not good to see that destroyed vehicles turn on lights after being destroyed, also the LAV's frontlights are wrongly placed

I kinda promised to make some shots but after all these weeks I`m still not happy with it and surtenly did not made time for it.

Lets hope others will make nice screenshots too for you and maybe (with)less static(anims) as I did.

Maybe a little competition ...whom makes the best screenshots of P85 addons get a spot in the folder(edited or pure)

Nice pictures :)

I don't know enough about the launchers, but I know it's possible to give planes different kinds of missiles. Take a look at the Sukhois in ACE.

lol I just checked and indeed it`s the arma one....silly me I never saw or played with the truck, not even in a multiplayer I think.

its probably used in a mission like evolution or something but I never had a look at it.

anyway the engine sound is working on the original :bounce3:

By way, I dont like the current fire effects in ARMA. But the effects of those pics are great. Anybody could tell where could download such fire effects?

Don`t know if it`s just me, so perhaps someone can check:

Following unit`s do exist in the config file, but do not exist if you want them to place in the editor:

p85_ussr_navy (name in stringtable: STR_P85_SOL_NAVY)

p85_ussr_regular_field (STR_P85_SOL_FIELDOF)

p85_ussr_afgan_gren (STR_P85_SOL_AFG_GREN)

p85_ussr_afgan_sniper (STR_P85_SOL_AFG_MARK)

And there are other examples.

Btw: Does the p85_r109 radio exist?

What disturbes me with the P85Mod is the lack of well visible tracers. Is there an addon that replaces the tracers with nice custom ones?

Hi, I'm german and was in service in the german Bundeswehr in 1999. But here are some minor bugs:

Why are german tanks (Leo 1) so green? The former versions were better. The Bundeswehr color till 1984 was oliv drab.

The Leopard 2 in camo has a wrong symbol on the right front mudgard, it stands for Panzergrenadiers (it is used on the Marder).

A German tankcrew member in the 1980's worn a black baret with hatpin pz.jpg and headgears. Not the modern caps like today.

Also german tanks had number plates on front and back (like the Iltis in your Mod) and a MLC (yellow on olive and black/grey on camo) for the weight on the front.

In the next upgrades of your packs, became the east German vehicles also markings like this
