Thread: >> Nvidia Crash To Desktop Possible Solution <<

1. #1
Anyone having trouble with the "...8007000" crash to desktop error and using an Nvidia 8800, try the 158.19 older BETA drivers. They can be found on the Nvidia website.

I've had this CTD bad ever since the 1.08 patch, and it's now gone after installing this driver version. Fog bug also disappeared or was dramatically reduced, and no more stutter when zooming in optics.

(BIS states that memory changes were made in 1.08, and I was curious about what Nvidia was doing with memory addressing or allocation in their drivers. From driver 158.22 onwards Nvidia turns their "turbocache" on which uses 64MB virtual memory along with the VRAM. Really don't know why they do this on cards with 768MB local VRAM. Couldn't find out how to turn this off with any registry switches in newer drivers to see if this was a factor with ArmA. But the 158.19 build is the last I could identify where the turbo is off for 8800's.)

Interested to have others try it and report back. Remember to manually delete any of the newer drivers that remain AFTER uninstalling - I found two in the Windows folder.

Ive installed the new beta driver 163.44 and I have been playing days now with 0 CTD and 0 LOD issues. It was Nvidia problems after all.... Suggest everyone try that out before reverting back to that old of drivers.

Im using the 163.44 drivers and getting the CTD and lod issues with 8800GTS 640MB.

Are these the 158.19 ones that work for you?

Edit:

I tried them they seem to run better then the 163.44 drivers.

I was able to cause the CTD but It took alot more before it did, then the 163.44 did for me.

I think I'll stick with these, untill they release better drivers.

Chaos - yep, those are the drivers. Since reporting I was able to crash once by ALT+TAB'ing numerous times (like 10+). But that has been it. No crashes in game otherwise... Keeping fingers crossed...

Binkster - 163.44 didn't work for my 8800. Neither did any of the other "fixes" including the -maxmem.

This has been a real pain as before patch 1.08 everything was fine. And other apps did not crash with the newer Nvidia drivers. Oh well... It's working for now...

You might want to edit posts in the future instead of double post ;PP

How did you setup -maxmem parameter, correct syntax?
Also, what kind of crashes you experiencing (might be something completely different from the thing that maxmem 'resolves&#39

Which drivers? The 163.44 or the 158's?

Maxmem 512 = truly poor performance for my computer.
Maxmem 1024 = Good performance but still get CTD's.

I had to go back to 162.15 because the LOD issues in 163.44 halted filming. I get a CTD about every 10 minutes when fliming(which entails alt+tabbing alot).
Okay, I am forum lurking lol.

Update: haven't had ANY CTD's this week which is good news. Have played a variety of servers and missions - even the IC-ArmA match last weekend - with zero problems. The 158.19's are working very well!

Suggest anyone with an 8800 and Windows XP having the 8007000 crash try these drivers out.

Good luck!
