In OIF 3, D-Rings were really popular and still get some use out of me.

Yeah, especially when you change to it by mistake lol and are in a rush. Obviously you cant move when you're doing an action for some reason(Concentrating?) and are a sitting duck.
Yes, I know...you should always change mags or weapons behind cover but if you're compromised in this game then your stuck like a deer in headlights.
Plus, it would be cool if when changing to the sidearm; the character would just drop his rifle (Its is on his chest snug) and immediately reach for the 9mm in one movement. Drop, reach and aim. Should take about 2 seconds to complete imo. Could save your life one day![]()
I have never used the pistol because its such a slow animation.
My idea of the sidearm is that it should be used if your main weapon is jammed or out of ammo and in those situations you normally have to change quickly to drop a target or to protect you until your in cover.
If its so slow then its useless.
We just always called it a one point sling. If there is any other names for it, then I haven't heard.Originally Posted by (MeNeZ @ July 16 2007,20:10)
I'd never chow sling (put it on my back) during combat. If I need both hands to work on something, I'd detach the weapon from my one point and lean it up against something next to me, so I can grab it quick if I need to. Probably not doable in game, but that's how I work in the real world. The only real purpose of a one point sling is so if I end up going down and someone has to drag me of the battlefield quickly, my weapon will drag with me...that's it. The biggest problem I have with tactical slings, such as a 3 point, is that you can't effectively transition between right shoulder firing and left shoulder, which is a necessity at times.
Great point! Only thing you can do is change to the sidearm to shoot lefty from cover.Originally Posted by (Rustman @ July 17 2007,08:28)
So...maybe the thread title should change to 1 point sling instead of 3?![]()
Either way, I hate the bloody length of time it takes to do an action that is sluggish and unnecessary.
The binoc implementation isn't great.. Though it's not the speed that bothers me, it's the sensitivity. Often find myself in a loop, taking them out, putting them back, then taking them out again.
The not being able to walk while reloading or the slow transition to AT are topics as old as OFP. Leave this as is. Gotta forget about real world abilities in favour of gameplay balance. These are game mechanics designed to encourage tactics.
A single AT unit with a well chosen bit of covering terrain can easily knock out a tank. Speed that AT movement up even slightly and players might not bother with cover: ArmA:BF.
AT handling has sped up since OFP anyhow. Running is now possible (as opposed to shuffling about while crouched), and getting to safety after firing is very fast (go prone from AT, then switch to rifle).
I always cringe when movement speed topics come up.. A game like OFP\ArmA needs to have it's movement speed compared to benchmark tactical games like older R6 titles pre-Lockdown\Ghost Recon 1. Simply positioning yourself on a ladder in R6:RS meant briefly watching the equivalent of an hourglass.
