Thread: Retexturing Units

  1. #1
Im trying to create a mission specific addon which is basically just a retextured version of the West soldier unit, Ive already created the texture and made the config my only problem is applying it to the SoldierWB Model, How do i define the path of the texture to this specific model?, do I need to include the model in the pbo file I have created? If anyone could help me out I would be very greatful, thanks

Edit: Looking at many of the addons from the old days of OFP I see that they include the p3d file in the PBO and never as an mlod, always the compressed version. Also the textures are alot of the times in JPG format which is a bit confusing as I thought ofp models only worked with PAA, PAC, Gif and TGA textures.

Model needs to be included. Back in the old days, I used a tutorial which explained in detail how to make your own retextured unit addon of the original OFP stuff. Don't know if it's still available anywhere, I got it from OFPEC and couldn't find it there anymore.
Today, we can use the odol explorer to decompress the models and edit them in O2. It's much easier (at least in my oppinion) to edit th texture paths of the models. You can also use any of the texture repath programs that are out there. Can't give link to any, but I'm sure you can find them in the O2 forums.
Models can use jpeg textures, but I advice against. They can be much bigger and thus use more memory than paa and pac files. Alway use paa or pac files. paa for transparent textures, and pac for others.
I can answer any other questions you might have, just ask, and I'm sure the community is willing to help you out, also.

Ive already tried decompressing the model with ODOL explorer and applying the textures with texture path tool it just leads to errors though when I try to get it in game.

What errors do you get? ODOL Explorer is known of doing some bad things to converted models, like twisted textures and bad selections.

I apologise in advance if I'm misunderstanding
    What you're trying to do.

Are you looking for a model of the soldierWB
in Mlod form, that hasn't been run through
    Odol Explorer?

That would be helpful as the only one I have is one I took from the Data3d pbo and then ran through Odol explorer And I think that may be the problem as the model works fine if I just paste the compressed model but of course it is without the texture changes.

Well I happen to still have the demo troops in a
    folder somewhere.I think I may have X-packed
the McVojakW2 file already. So you could just
open it straight away in O2.

Look,I can see you're not a fan of this crowd,
but a least you can have access to the files.
    I put em in here.

Although the files are Mlod they still need
to be run through x-pack to ensure they
work. The outputted file has an underscore
on the end of the file ext.Just chop it off
    and it's ready to go.

thanks that got it sorted, only problem is that when the unit is ingame it always has the same face texture and glasses, otherwise it works fine
