Thread: UN Troops

Rumours about the deployment of international troops under the blue flag in Sahrani :

I’m working on generic (no specific country) UN soldiers in olive drab uniforms. I just wanted to show you several screenshots of the Alpha version to seek some feedback from the forum.

No release date yet, there is still a lot of work to do and some issues with the textures, the funniest one being that although the flashy blue helmets look fine in daylight they glow in the dark when night comes

I also have several other problems to solve (folks on the forum might help me here) :

1/ I figured out (lots of trials and errors) how to edit the config files, skinning is no problem (I created myself some templates based on the RACS pilot’s skins), but I really don’t know how to edit the P3D files ?

2/ Do you know a good site where to easily upload mods ? (cannot send around 40 Mb by email).

Thanks in advance for your help.

I have a rapidshare account. I can host your mod no problem if you wish

Good idea. There was only one UN soldiers addon for OFP and it was ancient. Always wondered why nobody else thought about doing this.
Original OFP-er and 'old' on here, with little to no idea what's going on these days, so go easy on me. Cheers mate!

We´ll put up mirrors as soon as the file got hosted elsewhere..

As for the addon: Are the helmets really that babyblue´ish?
    ...

    hm, guess so...poor guys.
Maybe add some dirt to make ´em look more manly?

REALISM! No, fuck that, FIRE THE LASER!

    Hi,

That looks promising. Good to see some UN troops, I am working on some country specific (Dutch and Philippino) peacekeepers myself.

To alter the texture paths in the P3D files you would need a hexadecimal editor, preferably one with basic text editing functions that would allow you to perform a replace all by using the CTRL + H combination.

    Regards,

    Sander

Thanks vm for your proposal I’ll contact you by PM once the addon is completed (might take some week or even months).

Yup. I’ve even seen some pictures of UN troops wearing light blue flack jackets (much like the AAN reporter in ArmA).
I agree on the fact that my helmets are a bit too flashy (I need to add some dirt) but the basic colour is the right one indeed.

Thanks for the link to Sander

Btw guys if you have some links to pictures of UN troops do not hesitate to post them on this thread.

plasman edit the normal map of the helmet please.
looks fucked up the way it is done now because it looks like a helm cover and a non existent helmstrap.
    just...strange

Yes, I noticed it as well: I plan to put some black helm straps in the future.

    Hi,

It is not necessary to edit the normal map. Many armies issue a blue cloth helmet cover for UN duties:

Example of NL helmet cover for peacekeeping duties

Other examples of UN duty covers can be found at the following location:

Sander. Do you know which is the best (and easiest to use) hexadecimal editor ? Just for editing paths to textures ?
