Thread: How to enable true HDR

1. #1
Many people including me have problems with hdr, the image is oversaturating very easily, especially for example in the back of stryker.
By changing line HDRPrecision=8 in Arma.cfg to HDRPrecision=16 I was able to enable true HDR lighting (like in Oblivion for example) and fixed this problem compeletely.
Here are comparison screenshots (same mission, one with 8bit presision, other with 16bit)

And personally I havent seen smaller framerate with this enabled. The only downside is, that antialiasing is not possible on older graphics cards.

Great!!

Had this problem (screen 1) as well while walking around in the large hangars at the airport and looking to complete shadow parts inside it. Suddenly everything was very strange lightned. So the same problem like inside vehicles (everything is in shadow)

Have to test it when I get home

No, 8 is the lowest setting possible.

put 16 instead 8 and pray You have at least R600 ...

p.s. actually that overbright overshinny issues is bug and not supposed to happen even with 8

Hmm, stangely setting it to 16 disabled HDR for me. I can now stare directly at the sun without being blinded... I'm not sure if I should be happy or sad, but atleast I can now disable it

I have a 7900 GT. Maybe I have some strange combination of settings at the moment. Disabling the HDR didn't actually seem to increase my fps though...

It's in the 'my documents/arma' or '/arma other profiles' folder

edit: BTW, you all know that this DOES disable the use of AA with HDR same as in Oblivion

In Oblivion certain cards (ati 1x00 and up, dunno about nVidia cards, <s>probably 7x00's</s>) could use AA+HDR, i guess its the same for ArmA.

EDIT: Guessed wrong
