Thread: A quick thanks to BIS for Arma

1. #1
Ive been, like many folks, very aggresive on these forums as 'issues' continue to be discovered in Arma, and, was thinking about it earlier this morning...

BIS broke off and decided to do this thing on their own, Im willing to bank there's been money issues and time issues, considering the scope of this game, id think this alone is a huge undertaking. It does seem apparent that the game has been released somewhat 'incomplete', but, seems so far, BIS isnt just dumping this in our laps, their bustin their asses getting stuff fixed, which is cool - of course I have no idea why the game would be released before it was more/less completely prepared for the public, maybe money issues, dunno, but anyhow, dang glad to see it made it
Way back when, during the days (weeks, months) all this info about project gettin dumped, not gettin dumped, changing hands, cant find publisher, etc, etc ... Really wondered if 1 - it would ever actually make it, 2 it would still considerable resemble the very diverse and immersive format that Ofp did, id say its a miracle both have happened.

I think, for myself, I do see bugs (alot of big ones too) gettin fixed along the way here, and I certainly hope, most of all, that BIS does indeed find a solution to the major issues with foliage dropping fps scores big time, even on very good computers. (think id post this and still not gripe a lil? )

Anyhow, thank you BIS for your hard work and for actually gettin this thing out

Yep thanks a lot guys =)

Although its not perfect its still what i've been waiting for, and i know you guys always perfect this game through your patches. =)

I'll be there in Feb getting this game on the 1st day of release =D

And hopefully this will help pave the way for 'Game2' which im sure will be twice as good as ArmA and you'll hopefully have a nice new major publisher then. Instead of Crapmasters. =D

I agree too.

I am one of the ones that wanted it ASAP , mainly for the things like jip and the larger maps.

So that I could get the developers some money to help with progress of Game2

That's actually a good point. I think I'll go buy a second copy.

Thanks BIS! Glad that Armed Assault is released, finally. At least partially. I'm sure the community will be just as busy and creative as for OFP.

I may be the only voice here against BIS efforts but so be it.

Id like to point out that I loved OFP for over 5 years and also that really like ArmA, but I have many complaints.

First of all I was disappointed because of the bad controls of ArmA which I got used to now. While getting used to it, I found out many other aspecs that were faulty ...

The crashes, numerous bugs, performance problems, the fact that you need to buy hardware for 800€ to play ArmA fine, the lack of improvements ...

ArmA was to be released in 2004 me thinks ... lets assume they started work on an "improved OFP" in 2002, so until today they had 4 years to develop the new game.

Okay now lets see what they have done in 4 years:

2 Islands
Some weapons
Some units
Vehicles
A new video engine

So .... the community did that theirselves, we have beatiful islands in OFP (i.e. Tonal), we have perfect units (i.e. Razor, RHS), we have perfect weapons (i.e. SJB), we have perfect vehicles (i.e. RHS and whatnot)

So in general they did nothing so great ... it is the general idea of OFP that lives in ArmA and keeps it up. If we all would be honest, we would confess that we are were much happier with OFP than ArmA.
What kept us playing the former game was the freedom in it and the efforts of the community. I do not see a reason to thank BIS, because they served us a 80% done project and the community did the last 20% (think of ECP, WGL, FFUR)

And in ArmA again.... they gave us a buggy game, compared to the time they had (about half a decade) almost no improvements, they work is transfered to the modders and they receive the Thanks ?

Very slight improvements have been made... you dont need to restart ArmA to make the new mission that has been just copied into the missionfolder, be recognized by ArmA and of course Join in Progress.

Again ... this is my point of view, im happy to have ArmA at least but for the first time in my life im considering to abondon ArmA and also OFP.
Back then I couldnt picture living without OFP ....

If someone reports an issue/complains about the Alpha etc, replying in the thread "dude it's an alpha" doesn't really help anyone! Point them to the Arma3 Alpha feedback tracker instead please!

Please do not PM or Email me directly about your CD Key issues, follow the guidance in this thread instead.
