Thread: -maxmem -nosplash crash

1. #1
When I use in my Arma shortcut only -maxmem no problems but when I add -nosplash to my shortcut in SP no problems only in MP it loads than crash to desktop.
I thought first it can happen but tried a couple of times and everytime with -nosplash a crash can't even play in MP with it after removing -nosplash everything ok.

Does anyone else having this problem?

maxmem requires a numeric value.

A strange thing keeps happening to me with the -maxmem command line as well. Whenever I go over 1024 in value, the game will eventually crash after about 10-20 minutes of play. However, I have 2048mb (2gb) of RAM? Does the game simply have a maximum value allowed for this command?

Yes, I was about to correct my report on another CTD thread, but it seems that if you go over maxmem=1024 the game gets very unstable..

If I set maxmem=1280 (I have 2gb of ram) the game will CTD within 20 seconds up to 2 minutes after starting the campaign or some mission (or preview) with no error message, the ARMA.exe stays active in task manager for ages, the rpt file is not 'filed' correctly, it's like the game fails in the middle of writing the rpt..

Use maxmem=1024 and the game is steady apart from very very very occational crash (if none), or the crashes that alt+tabbing will eventually cause..

Affirmative. That's what I've been doing. Has there been any cofirmation of how much maximum memory ArmA uses if you don't put in the command line at all? I am very, very curious...

i thought i'd read in another thrtead that it was using around 400Mb of ram without using the -maxmem switch in the command line

i can't confirm this as i never looked at taskmanager while game was running

Did somebody say you 'must' add maxmem?

It's just if you think your system has more ram to
offer than the 400mb, the game is using by default.

Do you always yell for a fix if you hear or read something,
no matter what it's about?

It's a feature, not a bug.
