Thread: v1.02 performance drop

1. #1
After some tests and reboots i'm shure that v1.02 does have decreased performance compared to v1.01 - at least on my system (P4@3.6, 2gig ram, x850xt[agp]).

What I noticed is that windows(XP) seems to have got back more "task priority" or power with v1.02:
With 1.01 i had some screen/performance issues when scrolling inside notepad while alt+Tabbing. This is gone now... what is a nice thing, on one hand... -
But generally i'd like to have the power back to ArmA rather than to notepad as i definetly feel the performance drop even in small missions under same (medium) settings as before.

what do you guys think ?

[Edit:]
one more thing: while roving around in object loaded areas like the village of 'Obregan' the HardDisk constantly pumps and shovels data and seems to stop nevermore. Never noticed this in 1.01

[Edit:]
after new installation and step by step verifying&patching i have the impression now that 1.02 has even improved the performance on my system. sorry for enventual inconveniences !

Well mine is working muuch better now thanks to patch1.02

I uninstalled the game, deleted everything related to AA and then patched to 1.01 and to 1.02

No I can enjoy it better. I still have to upgrade my video card and mobo sometime but here are my specs

Athlon 64 4600
1GB DDR4 RAM
Asus GeForce 6800 AGP
Asus A8V Deluxe Mobo

I'm running at 1280x1024 at Medium/low settings

Obviously the patch affects systems differently.

Some have noticeable improvements, others do not. I don't even know where to begin. I may have to break the patch down and look at the code itself.

I am experiencing screen refreshing issues when scrolling around in notepad while Alt-Tabbed out of Arma with the 1.02 version as well. Feels like 100% CPU load, but I checked and my CPU is quite idle, and only 25% of the system memory are used.

Could this flickering in notepad be a refreshrate issue ?

my guess is that recent optimizations were partly OS specific so that f.e. vista/64bit issues could be solved while XP systems received disadvantages...

just guessing...

but maybe we can narrow down tendencies, if we all report which kind of Windows Operating System we are running ArmA on while noticing performance issues ?!

I just got rid of the flicker when I am scrolling in notepad with Arma tabbed down. Set my monitor to 85Hz ( Was on 75Hz ).

ok, just to reproduce my performance issues i deinstalled/installed ArmA (german) and patched to 1.01 :

now with v1.01 i have again
- the flickering/refresh issues in windows while alt+Tab (notepad, browsers, etc) which definitely were gone with 1.02
- the good performance is back , about 25% more FPS, generally much smoother graphics
- no more endlessly harddisk accesses while moving around.

think i will stick wich 1.01 for now
