Thread: 5 - 15 secs of OFP then CTD

  1. #1
Recently upgraded from P4 2.8 w/ HT to a new:

    Mobo (Intel DG965)
    CPU (Core 2 E6600 - wow!fast)
    RAM (2gb DDR3 667)
    Video Card (NVidia 7600 gt w/ 256mb)

same HD, same case. (Haven't migrated to my new SATA 3gb yet).

OFP is now crapped out. I re-ran preferences and everything. No dice. I launch OFP and somewhere between 5 and 15 secs it CTDs with no error other than the MS "Please send this error ..blah blah.."

    need to Reinstall OFP???

Should always try re installing ofp then asking here. Pretty much all ofp problems can be solved by re installing ofp.

While I may agree with the method (above) but I don't have to like it.

I will try, but if that fixes it, I'd like to know the cause. No files have been altered since the upgrade. The directory and permissions are still intact. Is OFP somehow tied to specific drivers or something? even after re-running the preferences exe??

If so, can we do something without having to reinstall? Whats the cause here?

Or perhaps worse.. does OFP install files into Windows system folders? When doing a repair install after upgrade it can demote the version of Windows and its files (requiring lots of updating)

[EDIT] Yes, it has onboard sound AND a SoundBlaster Audigy 2. But it's the same setup I used before... onboard sound for Teamspeak and Soundblaster for games.

Onboard sound was problem. Didn't even have to disable in BIOS. Just disabled temporarily in Hardware Manager.

    No Reinstall Necessary

    So much for that advice.

Going to see what I need to do to keep onboard sound on in tandem with Soundblaster (as I had before upgrade) and have OFP work.

    Thanks JdB.

[EDIT] Replaced Soundblaster Audigy SE with a Soundblaster Live! 5.1 everything works AOk for now.. guess I'll wait until Arma before putting in that Audigy.
