Thread: How to shoot yourself

  1. #1
i just did this by accident...
open a blank map in the editor and place the player as a soldier, preview the map... then use the mouse to aim down as far as you can, and hold down '4' on the numeric keypad to look left. keep holding 4 and fire into the ground with single shot m16 really fast... ad ur guy falls down dead..!!!!!?!!?

What causes you to die when you do this??? theres no blood?

I have indeed observed this weird behaviour. It is caused by indirect damage I think. The bullet does not have to hit dead on to kill, and by aiming at the floor your shooting close enough to your own body to suffer from it.

That's my best guess anyway. It sure is weird.

It's damage from ricochet, not a bug. And you don't need to look left, just shoot about a mag of bullets at your feet and you're dead.

A damage from ricochet? are you sure? i do not mean any disrespect, i am just really curious, because i never seen a bullet to ricochet - EVERYTIME the bullet hits something, it disappears.
I have seen some scripts, which was simulating the bullet ricochet by creating new bullet after impact and set its velocity in some random direction relative to the position of the hit and the unit which fired the bullet, but other than that - no ricochets

I think this is caused by the indirect (or sometimes maybe even direct) hits - aim down, and run and shoot simultaneously.

Yeah, I guess the ricochet is simulated by indirect damage, as if a small explosion would happen at the point of impact.

What does this have to do with editing and scripting?

Metal Heart is right, every bullet impact in OFP does little damage to the surrounding, even if it's unrealistic. And as the damage coefficient of your unit is increased with every close shot, you can easily kill yourself with a mag of ammo in the ground.

What you want to do is possible, depending on your imagination and the way you implement it

I am too unable to see the purpose of this topic's existence. I thought it will reveal something we still don't know, but aparently it did not - if this is true, then there is no need for this topic to exist anymore.
