Thread: How to make a trigger

  1. #1
Hey i've just made a cool trigger effect.
    Here it is:

1 First create a unit of spetznaz.
2 Near them create an empty transport helo.
3 Use the get in nearest waypoint and then a sentry waypoint some distance away.
4 Have a PBR with seek and destroy on some soldiers nearby.
5 Create a move waypoint near the helo so that they meet.
6 Create a get out point for the helo on a beach or something.

    The effect will be:

    Spetznaz board helo,
PBR takes out nearby ground forces,
Helo then takes out PBR and !triggers! a landing whereby spetznaz get out and destroy remaining forces.

It's the most awesome effect when used.

    Sounds cool.

I like this 'compact' style of programming the action. Guard, sentry, etc are very powerfull ... if only some ai/waypoint bugs would be removed in a possible DLC

I am having a bit of trouble following you. What exactly are you trying to accomplish?
When I shoot you in the woods and nobody hears it, is it murder?

I think he means that by using the Sentry waypoint, when the Helo attacks the PBR the Spetsnaz will get out of the chopper at the GET OUT waypoint which is near enemy forces, so they will start to attack the enemy forces when they have engaged the PBR.

Yeah, I get it, the sentry waypoint will be triggered by the first shot fired so they will go to the point you set when that shot is fired. You could then set other waypoints to follow just to make sure they did the job.

    Great idea.

But you don't need them in a Helo for that. Am I missing something here?

I want to understand, I am not flaming.

I think he means it is awesome that you can stage this thing with just a few waypoints.

But all of OFPE is awesome so i am not surprised

The effect that i accomplished was slightly different.

The spetznaz board the helo to move somewhere else on the island (works best on malden with that little island near Dourdan).

The helo stops to check the area for enemies.
The Mark II PBR is spotted and the helo destroys it and lands nearby.
The Spetznaz are dropped off and continue a patrol nearby.

No flaming but aren't you just describing the workings of the 'sentry' waypoint which IS a trigger (like 'guard' mode)

Anyway, it is a bit hard to visualize without the map (with waypoints and stuff) hahaha.

That is exactly what I am talking about. Isn't that what a guard waypoint does?
