Thread: Join in progress (JIP) and possible problems

  1. #1
We heard that it will be possible to join a war in progress. In others games I saw that if one side is loosing, many players will change the side for this battle (get out / rejoin) to be on the winner side.

From my point of view the ArmA Server should store the information from a player which side he have chosen and it should not be possible to change the sides during the war.

Does anyone heard something about this matter?

I have also experienced the oposite, if a team in adversarial is too strong some players will switch to make the gameplay more even . Anyway JIP wont be the all great thing for me, it will bring all kinds of fps MP idiots to play and screw up the game, join, mess up, TK, etc. A spectator option would have been enough for me. JIP is like having respawn in coop, a big mess imo.

I have also experienced the fact that people will join the loosing side/side with less people more then people switchin sides becasue their side is loosing.(actully iv never seen it happen)

As for your other concerns about JIP im hoping that itll be a server option or an option for who ever made the mission to set weather JIP will be aloud. Maybe different options such as JIP aloud bit only as spectator, JIP aloud but only as civilian, JIP aloud but only for a certain side, etc...

I've been playing online since Quake 2 hit the shelves and in that time the prevailing trend has always been for people to join the winning team. Or stay on it when balance is on their side. Another favourite is joining the team with the perceived advantage on any mission/map.

Yes you will get those fair players who switch to a losing side, but in most games on public servers they are the minority.

I never played OFP online much, think I just had too much fun creating offline missions to be interested in 'Paintball' etc The OFP crowd may be different to the CounterStrike & Battlefield playing masses but Arma will attract new players and I would rather see some precautions in place.

Along the same lines, perhaps there can be a system to balance the veteran and newbie players. If the client tracks the 'skill' of the player then this can be sent to the server when joining a game. It would work best when joining a game before it has started or on a restart. The server would decide the teams assigning a rough balance of good/bad players. As a server side option it could be turned off for clan games.

join in progress wil be imo more enjoyable, and almost complete with 10 min. respawn time penalty for changing sites!

It'd be better to let the admin handle JIP, not the players. Like the way admin can lock players to slots in OFP. So initially if the mission is JIP capable, you jip first as a spectator and then the admin decides what to do with you.

As a mission maker and a guy who likes scripting stuff for personal enjoyment now and then,I have to say I always hate to see how people who say they are into Coop dislike the JIP feature and want to make it useless(spectator-mode).Just think about all the positive possibilities JIP brings especially for COOP once .

Besides that I have to refer to what has been said in the already existing JIP thread(should be on page 2 or 3 now)

I doubt OFP players would act this n00bish.
I've never seen such thing in OFP, and there's no point in doing it in OFP since there's no statics logging unlike in BF2.

In most games I play there is automatic balance and when its
not automatic there are admins doing it. (Vietcong, RO, AA)
    Simulators rule: Arma2 - F4:AF - SH:5 - RO:1941-45 - FSX]
Epic quote on ARMAII from some forum: "didn’t like this, not a game really, more a simulation."
