Thread: difficulty setting?

hi! I just got the game and think it's simply amazing! I love it, I thank BIS for develop/port such incredible piece of software on the XBOX, and Codemasters to bring it on it

ok my question is, what difficulty setting are you using on the campaign? I do preffer "veteran" as the AI is more realistic but in this setting you can't see the units on the map (very useful) as you can in the "regular" difficulty. But then "regular" is too easy (at least the first missions)

Also, is there any difference in aiming between "regular" and "veteran"?, I mean, I think the aiming in "regular" is auto-aiming (wich I don't like at all) isn't it? not sure about "veteran"...

I'm starting the campaign so I don't know if it will get too hard on "veteran" later on, any sugestions?

    Thanks

Unit position is not on the map in veteran because nothing like this was available to ordinary soldier in 1985 - map reading and orientation was an important part of leader skills back then - and for realisticaly inclined people it can become an interesting part of the game as well.

In selected missions you have some more help - Spec Ops soldiers are usualy equiped with GPS, telling you grid coordinates on the map, and some combat vehicles (most tanks and helis) have some means to indicate the position on the map, simulating inertial navigation system pointers.

You can try it, and if it gets to hard for you, you can use "Revert" to restart from any mission - Revert will allow you to change difficulty you are playing at.

thanks a lot Suma, so even in "veteran" you got unit position on the spec ops missions? good

ok I'll keep playing it on "veteran", didn't knew about the revert option, I'll look for it tonight, that's a great option every mission based game should have, this game amazes me every single day.

    thanks again

    Placebo,

I need more clarification on how the various guided missiles work at different difficulty settings.

    Hellfire, TOW, man-portable, etc.

I rarely use the guided missiles because I find them confusing. I also play in so many online game of different difficulty settings that it adds to the confusion, as the difficulty seems to affect the way the locking and firing and guiding process works.
