You must -not- use the Search and Destroy waypoint, as the AI choppers with machinegun on a side are by themselves really bad when it comes to move in a position allowing the side machinegunner to open fire on the enemy on the ground.
To solve this problem , you must help the AI.
Here is a screenshot showing a Nam chopper with the machinegunner on the left side capable of killing all the 2 enemy squads, thanks to the waypoint used there.
Create the waypoint i marked by the -1- , set it as a "Move" waypoint.
Set the Combat mode of this waypoint to "Hold Fire" and the behaviour to "Careless"
This way the pilot will follow the waypoints without trying to face the enemy and go 'berzerk' , breaking the waypoint i want him to follow.
The gunner will be allowed to open fire by this waypoint no1 setup ***(if instead of Hold Fire we would have selected Never Fire, the gunner will have never cared about enemy)
Create every other waypoints as "Move" waypoint too
Setup the waypoint marked by a -2- to "Cycle" instead of "Move", this way the chopper will continue to fly in circle following all the waypoints , and showing again his left side (occupied by the machinegunner) ,the AI will continue to open fire everytime on the infantry.
Add in the init line of the AI chopper

to give the chopper a low enough altitude to see the enemies.
The side gunner of the chopper will fire to the enemy everytime , very unlike what would happen with a "Search& Destroy' waypoint.
