HOME I have a platinum version of OFP and I noticed that the old typical M16 sound is gone and it now sounds exactly the same as G36! I am sure this is wrong. Or do I have some local problem and noone another hears the same thing?

I don't have Platinum, so I can't tell you if they are supposed to sound the same, but I doubt it.
Do you have any third-party addons or soundpacks, or is this a clean installation? What is the version number that shows at the Main Menu?
