Of more interest is the Stavatti Tactical Infantry System Gasdynamic Laser Rifle - a laser rifle that utilizes a hypersonic jet of gas to create photonic energy in the form a very powerful laser. Listed advantages include:
    # no dispersion or course deviation over 1500m
    # Continuous use for over 60 days
    # lethal beam - capable of penetrating medium material targets in all atmospheres (hehe...that must include deep space)
    # campatible with M16/M4 accessories.

A few (read HUGE) technical barriers remain: a viable power source that could provide long-term and adequate power, heat containment/shielding, and forward recoil mitigation. Click here to view drawings of the weapon and read the TIS-1 "white paper", which describes in detail the technology utilized by the weapon

Do you need a socket to recharge it ?
I don´t know what to make of this. Serious. Never heard of that thing actually working. Did anyone get the PDF ?

Edit: Just read it. Don´t want to run around with a toxic gun.
It produces 104 Kwatt heat energy. I don´t want to take this into my sleeping bag. Haha and the 90lbs recoil will never touch my shoulder. You need two soldiers for the gun. one fires and the other picks him up 10 meters behind after the shot

I think the Stryker comes with an electrical outlet for recharging batteries, radios, electric razors, etc. Maybe this would be a good companion weapon system? "Hey! Private! Turn off your Eminem and unplug your stereo, we need to recharge the laser guns!"

Throw me a frickin' bone here. All I wanted were some frickin' sharks with frickin' laser beams attached to their heads!

    Sounds like Starship troopers
Anyway we have that sockets in german vehicles for quite while now. It only takes a screwdriver and a talented electrician
"Hey I need that cooler running in my tent. Let the TPZ engine run"
Me waisting ressources and getting a bad back in desert because my tent was cooled down to 10 Celsius so that we had ice on front entrance ? No way !
