No graphics

Hi folks -just new here and hope someone can help.I just got OF and I've got no graphics,just a black screen!

Any ideas? I have sound and it installs ok-no error messages so I'm stumped as to why

Also try reading this thread in Avon's FAQ I start OFP and I hear the music but the screen is just black!

Hi again,

I went to that link and then tried to lower my screen resolution as it suggests but I run XP and the lowest I seem to be able to go is 800x600 ? I did change it to 16 bit but it makes no difference.

What version of Flashpoint do you have?

Riva TNT2 it looks like?

Try opening flashpoint.cfg, where it says

Resolution_W="800";
Resolution_H="600";

(or whatever it says for you) change it to W640 and H480 and change where it says refresh=100; (or whatever number it says) to 60, save and close the file, then try Opf.

I can run it now but it crashes with virtual memory problems and I'm still confused as to why my 32 bit graphics has to rum in 16 bit mode as otherwise its very very dark.Any suggestions ?

It shouldn't have to, change it back to 32, the problem (I think) was that you (or it) set a refresh rate/resolution that either your graphics card or monitor couldn't handle.

What virtual memory error are you getting?

Edit: Now that you've got back in you should be able to set the correct resolution/refresh rate, 640x480@60hz isn't going to be very pleasant to look at, find out what your card can go up to and set it higher, you now know how to fix it if you go too high and see only a black screen again

Hey Placebo,

Well to be honest I cant see the full error message as it crashes so suddenly and then reboots!!

I have it set to 480/640 16 bit and can go up higher but the higher I go the darker it gets.The other thing is I have to boot out of the game in the beginning and come back in after the opening titles to get to the menu page. And it is often crashing to desktop too.It seems a very unstable game to me right now which is a shame for it is quite interesting and addictive! lol

Oh, and the version I have is the original Cold War Crisis.
